Description
The brewery was founded in 2005 by four home brewers who wanted to make high quality beers. In 2016 two of the original founders retired, and the brewery is today owned by a constellation of the two remaining founders, some employees at the brewery and three other Norwegian craft breweries.

Haandbryggeriet currently has 10 employees all participating in developing new ground breaking beers and recipes.

The brewery has a wide selection ranging from classic and traditional beers to new and innovative brews and hybrid beer styles. Sometimes brewed with local and Nordic ingredients such as cherries, sea buckthorn, raspberries, and lingonberries. Haandbryggeriet has since 2005 also made high quality sours and barrel aged beers such as porters and Christmas beers.

Bottle at GBBF 2007. Hazy pale chestnut with thick lasting beige head. Good smoke and a little herby, it’s got vegetables. But it settles down and is a good hoppy smoky beer. Almost like a best bitter. Nice intense hop. Bit over carbonated. Quite a fresh aroma. Just a little harsh from carbonation. Still, some smoke over it all. Loads going on . Grassy hop aroma.

Rating #500. 500ml bottle at Uber Tavern in Seattle. Pour is a murky reddish brown with a nice off white head, which lasted almost the entire beer. Aroma is smoke (charcoal) and spiciness - earthy , pine and berries. Taste is a perfect representation of the aroma - the smoke, earthiness, sweet berries and spice blend very nicely together. Had the perfect ratebeer experience for rating #500 - drinking with a new friend (after4ever) who I met through the site, at a bar (Uber) that I learned about through the site and drinking a beer I would have never tried had it not been for this site.

Dark brown color; huge head, just foam. Very malty, both the aroma and taste, a lot of caramel, very sweet, but also some off-flavors due to the over fermentation. Uncontrolled.

500 ml bottle. Deep red, almost black body with a beautiful beige head. Aroma has roasted malt, coffee and chocolate. Flavor is harmonic, roasted malt, coffee and chocolate. This is a creamy and smooth porter, but unfortunately I find the rather low alcohol causing an imbalance. I’m ending up with a beer feeling too watery to deserve a higher score for palate and overall. The appearance, aroma and first sip were lovely. I really prefer the ordinary porter from HB. Many British porters manage to be full-bodied at this alcohol percent. Sorry.

Beautiful red-amber color. I remembered a better beer; this one has some ashes in the aroma and even more in the flavor; there is a light smoke aroma; the flavor has a quite good caramel and a light smoke touch; correct bitterness. There’s some light spiceness, maybe the juniper; it just makes it a bit weirder, without making it better. The dryness of the ashes is disturbing.

Cloudy brown color; persistent head, as the bottle keeps erupting foam. The aroma is a nice mix of smoked malt and German hops. Good body structure, malty taste, with strong smoke character, plus strong and aromatic hopping, and light yeast taste at the end. Very good.
