Description
Inspired by local brewing traditions and the vibrant US craft beer scene, Magic Rock Brewing is the culmination of a lifelong passion for beer. Richard Burhouse (aided by head brewer Stuart Ross) started the brewery in 2011 in an old out-building of the family business in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.
Alongside a distinctive core range we produce an ever changing line up of idiosyncratic beers with an innovative quality driven approach. Our ‘Same but Different’ beers are packed with intense yet approachable flavours which will challenge and inspire, but above all remain balanced and drinkable.

In 2022 Lion breweries have sold Magic Rock to Odyssey Inns.

On tap at The Craft Beer Co, Clerkenwell, London, 03.12.11 in company of Tom. Pours black in colour with brown head. The aroma is quite simply stunning, one of the best for me, like I said to Tom and Loz, I could happily stand here, taking a waft of this nose every few minutes and be very happy. It is so wonderfully full of masses of coffee but underpinned with copious amounts of dark bitter good quality chocolate as Tom pointed out, it is simply a huge indulgent sexy nose 10/10 for me on that one. Very full flavoured, but velvety and smooth, with coffee, chocolate and tons of soft creamy maltiness, superb flavours, with dark fruits, dark sugars adding to the kaleidoscope of sensory bombardments going on, brilliant stuff! I wish this rating could do this beer justice, but my phone had to suffice for this rating. A10 A3 T9 P4 Ov19 4.5

Cask at Euston Tap, London. A golden coloured pour with a small white head on top. Great hoppy, citrus fruit aroma. Tastes hoppy, citrus fruit, bitter, crisp. Very tasty indeed for such a low strength beer. Magic Rock are knocking out some tasty beers.

On tap at the Old Fountain. Very light haze on this gold beer, tidy white head. Smooth palate, semi dry. Hops are nice mix of tropical fruits, pine and mildly bitter citrus. A little creamy pale malt underneath. Finishes semi dry. Decent pale ale, full of flavour but not aggressive.

Cask at CPK, London. Pours clear yellow with a frothy, white head. Rich citrus nose, some grass, sap, straw. Lightly sweet flavor with a famtastic bitterness. Lemon rind, dry straw, slight urine. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Near perfect balance. Dry finish with some slightly abrasive hops, bit of grass, crispy malts, straw, touches of sugar, long-lasting bitterness. Superb beer. Even more impressive given the low ABV.

Cask@The Craft, London. Amber looks with a small white head. Promising nose of citrus and grassy hop. Some sweetness in tandem with excellent piney hoppage in the flavour. Fresh, clean and very downable. Top stuff. By the way if you haven’t seen the documentary ’Man on Wire’, seek it out and toast that man’s balls with a glass of this.
