Cask at the brewpub - Great Barrington. Pours clear, bright good with a fine, creamy white head. A bit of orange citrus in the nose, light floral and piney notes. Light to medium sweet flavor with mild pine bitterness, lightly toasted bread, dried grains. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Decent bakance to finish, some dry bread, hints of caramel, pine, ripening orange. Alright.

Cask at the brewpub - Great Barrington. Pours clear yellow with a fine, creamy white head. Cereal in the nose, hints of butter, some hay. Lightto medium sweet flavor with crispy cereal, straw. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet finish, light doughy white bread, mild hay bitterness. Simple and drinkable.

Bottle from Nejaime’s wine cellar in Lenox MA. Pours a fairly clear deep copper color with a huge off white head that quickly dissipates into lots of lace. The nose holds lots of malty caramel and toffee with huge English earthy sulfur mineral water aroma to it. The flavor is rich and malty with a fair amount of toffee and caramel coming through. A solid earthy hop flavor poke through, but this is either an old bottle or a poor example of an IPA . Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet slick mouthfeel. Decent beer but feels more like an English bitter. My bottle is notched for Oct, but I don’t know what year.

The nose holds lots of malty caramel and toffee with huge English earthy sulfur mineral water aroma to it. The flavor is rich and malty with a fair amount of toffee and caramel coming through. Light earthy hop to counter but this one remains a malty affair. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet slick mouthfeel. Decent English style pale ale, I enjoyed it.

Bottle at Sander’s place, NYC. Pours clear brown with a fine, beige cream head. Some sweet malts on the nose, nips of bread, caramel and cocoa. Medium sweet flavor, some cocoa, dry caramel, toast, brown sugar. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Some dry toast to finish, dirt, burnt leaves, light chocolate, dried fruits. Good stuff.

Bottle in NYC at Sander’s place. Pours clear, orange-gold with a small, white head. Some lightly toasted malts in the nose, mild caramel and citrus. Toasty dough flavor, lightly sweet, some toasty sugars, orange citrus, slight butter, light grass. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Mild sweet finish, more mild citrus, sweet toast, modest bitterness. Decent character but great drinkability.

Bottle at Sander’s pace, NYC. Breakfast beer. Pours black with a small, rich beige head. Aroma is subtle roast and big milk chocolate. A good lacto presence here. Flavor REALLY doesn’t follow as I had expected. It is only faintly sweet, with a modest roastiness and mellow cocoa. Light to medium in body with average carbonation. The roasted malts in the finish are more pronounced, with notes of tobacco and ash, light burnt earth, and mild grassy bitterness. Easy to drink, just not very characterful. Aside from the aroma, this beer reminded me of a mild.

Bottle shared with Sander at his place, NYC. Pours clear brown with a modest, tan foam head. Aroma has some ashy, lightly toasted malts just tinged with sourness. The flavor, though, is quite sour, and I can’t imagine it’s intentional. Some light toast and cocoa, but mostly sour malts. Light bodied with average carbonation. Sour finish, faint dry roast and leaves, some tart fruit hints. Hard to enjoy this. (January 2012, score 2.6)

Bottle at Leighton’s Aug 11 tasting. It pours clear woody-amber, with a thick off-white head. The nose is pine, cheesy hop, ham, butter and leather. The taste is sweet caramel, metal, orange, pine, grass, resin, leather and earth, with a bitter-sweet finish. It is medium bodied and has harsh carbonation. Ok, but not outstanding.

Bottle at a tasting. Pours a clearish ruby with a creamy, off-white head. Some boozy caramel on the nose, some toast. Medium sweet, mild earth and toasty malts, faint pine. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Sweet finish, modest bitterness, some slight alcohol, sweet toast. OK.
