Description
Penn Brewery began brewing craft beer back in 1986, making us one of the earliest pioneers in the American craft movement. We started out brewing classic lagers and German beer styles, adhering to the strict quality standards of the 16th-century Bavarian Reinheitsgebot purity laws. As we’ve expanded our lineup in recent years to include IPAs and other contemporary styles like chocolate and pumpkin beers, we’ve stayed true to our quality craftsmanship, brewing all of our beers by hand with top-tier barley and hops. We’re proud to say that Penn beers have won a total of twenty Great American Beer Festival® and World Beer Cup® medals.

On tap at the Bocktown, a very nice beer tasting place. Slight metallic aroma. Sterile to the nose. Nice good looking dark beer. Really nice lacing. slight fizz but just barely. Taste is simple doppel thank you. Not really over the top, just a civilized doppel that a lager lover can appreciate. Strong but not in yer face, fer sure Penn. Good job on the style. Not bad for a dark strong lager my friend.

Draft at Brew’d Pub. Clear deep golden color. Very malty, this one, and pleasantly sweet without being cloying.

Cloudy straw yellow color with a white head and limited retention. Spotty lacing. Lager taste is a little paler than BMC. Decent but wouldn’t seek it out.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy pale yellow color with a large creamy white head that left minimal lacing. The aroma was tangy pepper, candied ginger, yeast and almost skunk. The flavor was dryish ginger powder, yeast and almost skunk. Medium length finish. Light to medium body. Meh.

22 ounce bottle. Bright, brassy gold color. Small white head. Earthy, fruity malt nose. Sweet toasted malt flavor with notes of bubblegum citrus hops. Complex flavor has notes of caramel, tropical fruit, vanilla and alcohol. Overall, a nice tasty Maibock.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy orange-apricot color with a large foamy orange-tan head that lingers forever and left decent lacing. The aroma was tangy and sweet caramel, bread, pine and fruity hops. The flavor was bitter, astringent, sour and had notes of honey, caramel, bread, pine, resin, floral hops and hot peppers. Long finish. Medium body. Decent.
