Description
We find that the best moments in life — the most memorable — are when we spend time in the company of those who are most important to us. Our beer and spirits are made for these moments.
It all started for us in 1997 when Brett VanderKamp believed that his hometown and the brewing industry were due for a shakeup. And so, New Holland Brewing Company was born in Holland, Michigan near the shores of Lake Michigan.
Today, New Holland is recognized as one of the leading innovators in the revolution of craft brewing and distilling. With nearly 500 team members, New Holland’s craft beer and spirits are sold across the country, and around the globe. Our retail presence continues to grow with two full-service restaurants, a spirits tasting room, two brick-and-mortar stores and an online store.
We look forward to finding moments to connect and enhancing the lives of people around the world.

Deep amber/brown pour with moderate brown lacework - malty, caramel-like aroma, some toffee and brown sugar - medium-tart flavor, with black cherry and toffee - quite dry and roasty toward the end - some vinous notes - very different from other high gravity ales that blow you away with sweetness.

Clear, sparkling gold with small, foamy lace - full aroma of vanilla, orange peel, spices, a bit of peach - tingly mouthfeel - flavor of aplples, cream, peaches, herbs, background hops - finished relatively clean, with some dry grassiness - pretty good.

Bottled. Beer #3 of 31 American beers for American Beer Month. A simple idea, remarkably well executed. My bottle kept foaming up when I poured, but my friend’s bottle was OK, and both tasted the same. Brilliant, slightly hazy golden yellow under a puffy white head. A nice hoppy smell that I wouldn’t have thought to be German. Malt taste is bright and sharp, kind of like an ordinary "beer" turned up to 11. Hop taste lingers nicely after the first few sip. Definite pilsener malt taste, almost a hint of whiskey malts; just a tiny bit oxidized. Still a great discovery.2nd bottle, 1 Feb. 2006. This is from the same purchase as the first, so it’s over 9 months old. Still holds up exceptionally well. A gush of foam that actually has geographic features in the glass. Malts are mild but clean, and the hop is spicy... a great lawnmower beer or an introduction to BMC drinkers of how "their" beer could be done right.

Bottle Pours a dark brown/black with a small light borwn head and faint/sparce lacing. Wonderfull aroma of old barrels and sweet vanilla. The flavors however I though were dry, sour and acidic. Some of the barrel aged characteristics were prominant as well. My thoughts were that this might make a good marinade for my next steak. A dry tart finish. Thanks Mr Facto for this one.

Pour is a dark red with no head. Aroma is malty and fruity. Flavor is leathery and smoky. Reminds me of a weaker Skullspliter. Good but not great.

Pour is a almost black with a small tan head. Aroma is faint but you get some roasty qualities in there to tell you this is a stout. Flavor is a nice heavy dose of coffee and chocolate. Finish is very sweet and enjoyable. Did not sample at the 45 F the bottle told me to but still quite tasty.

Bottled. Taste is kind of slight for a style that can often be overdone, but it’s a nice summer refresher nonetheless. Yellow body with whitish haze. Decent wit smell with a hint of spiciness. Taste is a little oxidized, which cold be because I bought it warm. Somewhat of a milky aftertaste. So,anyway it’s OK by me.

Pour is a bland yellow with a white head. Arom is nice and hoppy. Flavor is more hoppy then malty and very crisp and clean. This is a lighter beer but it is big on flavor. Seek this one out.

Bottle, bought warm. Sweet smell, but nicely "beerish" upon popping the cap. Pours a nice frothy, slightly hazy reddish brown, with a fizzly head. Interesting malty taste; yes, surprisingly smoky. I had a whiff of flowery hops before the first sip, but that disappears once I taste the smoke. A bit of alcohol head to it, too.I think if you knew what this was like before you tried it, you might like it.; Just glancing over the reviews, does it seem the draft version is different from the packaged beer?

Draqft, at the brewpub. Described on the menu board as "black lager," so I’m supposing this to be a schwarz. And it’s black indeed. Has the black malt burn of a stout, but leavened by a light lager yeast profile. Definitely loaded with black patent malts with a bit of chocolate and coffee; but still witgh a clean, clean finish. Somewhat grainy finish. Poured solid black in its mason jar glass with just a touch of lace. An interesting turn on what’s become a popular style in these parts.
