Description
The Verbeeck-Back brewery has been around since the end of the 19th century, when it became one of the most beloved independent breweries in the northern region of Belgium. The brewery was, is and remains a family affair: no monks or big corporations in sight. The secrets of its successes were passed on from father to son until they became fathers themselves... and so on. However, the sons of the sixties-generation had other plans. In 1966, the brewery dozed off for a short nap.
In 2015, a new generation has risen and so has the brewery. The Verbeeck-Back family bloodline was reinforced by the De Cock family. Together, they have formed the formidable, reassuringly Belgian-sounding name Verbeeck – Back – De Cock. VBDCK. This new crop of VBDCK heirs to the family tradition of Belgian quality and craft has literally been digging up history by its roots. They are ripping through the nostalgic silence with KEREL, the beer that says it all, and the transformation of the original brewery and family residence into a new place to stay.

Amber with a creamy, white head. Peachy aroma, a bit artificial, with lots of dankness. Taste is mildly bitter the whole way through. Body to the light side of medium, moderate watery texture. Overall, fairly simple. Not a fan of the aroma, but otherwise drinkable.

Gekocht bij de Delhaize van Dendermonde op 18-03-2024.
Geproefd op 12-07-2024. Mijn 1000ste geproefde bier. Limited Batch, vooral bitter en fris, leuk voor de zomer. Aroma: iets zeer licht zoetigs, fruitig, met natuurlijke kaktusvijg aroma, niet mijn ding.

330ml bottle. Did not realise this was 15% when I cracked it open! Misty yellow pour, medium-sized white head. Tastes like a supercharged blond with a big old sweet character. Big alcohol hit, struggle to finish.

330ml bottle. Pours a dull unclear gold, eager to leave the bottle, forming an overly large bubble bath foam head. Aroma of floral marigold and grapefruit. Flavour profile produces a relatively hoppy character, but seems past it's best, floral grapefruit is here but alongside a dirty bitterness. Quite gassy.

Clear yellow colour with thin head. Aroma and flavour have a dusty, grassy note. Dry. Some dried yellow stone fruit.

27/I/24 - 33cl bottle from Bio Planet supermarket (Destelbergen), shared @ home, BB: 13/IV/24, brewed: 22/VIII/23, 1317.14 (2024-64)
Pretty clear orange beer, lots of debris, all small chunks floating around under a small creamy irregular white head, unstable, a bit adhesive. Aroma: a bit oxidized, very malty, grains, cow fodder, some caramel, cookie dough, hint of vanilla, some barnyard. Pretty weird smell for a witbier. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: very malty start, pretty sweet, some ripe banana, cookies, some caramel, little spicy, hints of coriander, honey, a bitter touch as well. Aftertaste: more malty, sweet, a bit spicy, coriander, pretty dry finish, bitter, some bubble gum, banana peel, highly unimpressive witbier. Not a fan.
