Bottle - Many thanks to jonboy32818 for this one!
Hazy orange body. Off-white rocky head (Orval like). Nice looks. Nice flavour of hops, orange, citrus, yeast. Lightly sweet, moderately bitter flavour. Very nice. Heavily bodied. Lovely beer!

Bottle. Musty barnyard aroma with lemon and coriander notes. Hazy amber color with large head. Sour-tart new hay and lemon peel flavor - very dry with a light hops finish. Another great JP beer.

Bottle. Somewhat hazy reddish brown volor with a big cream colored head. Tart aroma with some lemon, caramel and wood (I can also see the bourbon that someone pointed out). Tart flavor with good malt backing. Some fruitiness - lemon and a bit of berry. Underlying sweetness behind the tartness. Tartness lingers, but there’s also some caramel in the finish. Lot’s of carbonation.

Bottle. Golden amber beer with a huge whitish head. Spicy aroma with pepper, yeast, and a slight tartness. Tart/lemony flavor with yeast and earthiness. Lingering tart lemon fades to earthiness. High carbonation. Lacks complexity - just thought the tartness didn’t add anything.

Bottle. Amber beer with a big off-white head. Sweet/tart aroma - some spice and yeast, but mostly just a slight citrusy tartness. Yeasty, spicy, lemony, green apple flavor with nice tartness - not overwhelming. Nice cleansing flavor. Alcohol slightly noticeable. Finishes peppery, yeasty, and tart. High carbonation.

Bottle drunk on 8/12/06.
The usual light gushing and huge amount of foamy, well-aerated head is produced here, with a thick layer of sediment left on the bottom. The head is a light-cornmeal color while the body is a deep copper-tangerine-peach, with gold-leaf highlights and some darker auburns. Medium-high to high clarity from leaving the sediment behind. Unlike some other JPs, however, the head is not as long-lasted, fading rather steadily to barely cover the liquid, with some blotchy lacing left behind.
Brett strikes forth in the nose, fruity and phenolic, with a light dose of nuttiness (wood tannins), some specks of cinnamon and brown sugar and then a fade-to-lacto, with a hard, sour, yogurt-like note. Quite strong in the nose, and the brett seems in peak/near-peak form, giving off hints of pear skins, limes, lemons and such. The malt is a little bit more difficult to discern, obviously being nearly all-attenuated, but certainly a softness of caramel residue, light vanilla cream notes and honey. Not overly spicy in the nose, nor would I ever pick out the chestnut, but there is an added zestiness. Wood character is very subdued in the nose. It all comes together very uniquely, nothing being too dominant, though aside from the wild yeasts, I think, perhaps, it’s a bit too reserved? No alcohol is apparent in the aroma.
The first sip is, again, unique for a Jolly Pumpkin beer. A fuzzy, aerated, rather large-bubbled carbonation immediately loosens things, providing more vacuousness than usual for these beers. Brett mixes with dry, tannic oak and is quickly supported by soft fruits (cherries, apricots, pears, peaches, nectarines) and further pale sugars. Lactobacillus influence is very light in this one, without nearly as much hard edge to the finish as many. Probably that this is still relatively young contributes to that factor. Whatever the reason, it’s quite drinkable, with the usual heavy brett and wood dryness offset by the light, but noticeable residual sugars. Some mildly herbal, somewhat leafy hops are noted, and the spices are extremely light. The mouthfeel had some problems, going from heavily carbonated (though not aggressively so) to quite undercarbonated, without much transition between the two. Still, with the low abv, and medium colored malts and a decided softness not found in many JP beers, I found it extraordinarily drinkable, much moreso than the bottle I had fresh (which was too sweet). Probably wouldnt want to let this one sit too much longer, unless you enjoy tons of lacto character.
Rerate on 2/3/07
Still as good as I remember, no problems in the aging thus far.

Excellent. More of a saison than a biere de garde, I tought. Bright, cloudy yellow. Very large and thin white head. Small pieces of brown sediment, and quite a bit of it. Aroma is spicy and barnyard. The natural fermentation is clear in this beer. Flavor is horse blanket, a little sour, with some citrus flavor that included lemon. Some wheat; maybe coriander. Alcohol is very well hidden and sneaks up on you.

Fun beer! Pours a cloudy yellow-orange color, but as you drain the glass, the color approaches more of a pale yellow, like a witbier. Oh yea, it gushed like nuts...even after I poured a glass to make some room, it gushed a second time! Anyway, big fresh aroma of melons, pineapple, and sourdough. Flavor is medium sweet up front, with peaches. Also, fairly tart with a yeasty bread dough character plus sour cherries. Perhaps a vanilla pepper character is hiding in there. Maybe a slight leafy and spicy hop aromatic. Mild alcohol presence. I enjoyed the buzz this 750 gave me...this beer makes me horny.

Thanks to TAR for this bottle - Cloudy copper pour with minimal head - medium tart/acidic aroma, with notes of oak, earthy/barnyard qualities, and some almost lambic-like funkiness - flavor is mildly acidic and somewhat tart up front, followed by big time wood flavors, then a gentle sweetness and a hint of grain, apricot - subdued spices and hops in the finish - a bit of alcohol warmth finishes it all off - a good beer, but not one of JPs best.

Style 65/70; Bottle from iowaherkeye’s first trade, Don’t hesitate to trade with Joey! Nose of sour caramelness; dark amber color with a huge, longlasting, heavy lacing beige head; Nice and lightly sour. carameely malt flavor, lots of brett, with a spicy, hop finish. Since this is the first of the style, I’m not an expert, but liking sour foods and lambics, I liked it! Fonishing the 750 ml with a Ceasar chicken wrap sandwich so the 7.2% doesn’t get to me.
