Description
Jaanihanso is a family owned cider house and orchard on a historic farm dating back to the 18th century. Our family bought Jaanihanso in 2000. Our knowledge of the farm’s history originates from the papers that we found from the house, and from older villagers stopping at our gate to reminisce about the “old days”.
The renovation story of the estate has been in sync with our own growing pains. Some years with larger construction works, some years not that much, but there has been constant mutual bettering. In 2013, when the last bits of the house had been refurbished, the car had to move out from its brand-new pigsty-turned-garage to make room for cider. Famously, a garage is the best place to start a venture.

Unclear golden. Mountain viking woodchipper juice, and an apple. Very stark and dry, green twigs, boozy, more wood than apple, icy watery hard apples. Bittersweet and tart. Some lemonrind and icecubes. Rough and strong, northern cider that works.

Tart and dry, but has some fruity sweetness. Rhubarb, caramel, a bit of apple. Nice.

Light brownish red, smells fruity, sour, a bit earthy. A bit sweet, dry, fruity, well carbonated. Red apple, black currants. Earthy, smooth, elegant. Best cider ever?

Clear carmine liquid with a golden sheen. Apples, but also a solvent-like background smell, bit sharpish. Drier than regular cider. Again rather sharp dry apple flavour. Complex hints of incense, solvent and truffle. Truffle/musk very marked backthroat by swallowing. Way less sweet than the Quebec cidres de glace. Light acidic surrounding, fruity, but neither lemony, neither green apple. Light dry-out effect, faint and strange slickness at the same time. Tannins playing. Alcohol quite traceable. First impression is strange, almost chemical, but this proceeds quickly to an impressive, much more convincing complexity.
