Description
Occidental Brewing Co. was founded in 2011 by Ben and Dan Engler with the goal of making well-balanced continental-style beers in the land of IPAs: Portland, Oregon. Finding a niche with beer drinkers who had grown tired of the hops arms race, we quickly grew (but not too much) with our lineup of approachable, sessionable, and award-winning ales and lagers. We began canning our core beers in 2013 and now bottle multiple seasonal offerings as well. Over the years we expanded our distribution from our Portland brewery to much of Oregon, Western Washington, Nevada, Idaho, and the occasional shipment to Japan. Look for Occidental beer in your local supermarket, bottle shop, bar or restaurant. Prost!

22oz bottle brought back from cbc. Pours out a hazy straw topped with a white head. Nose is salty light fruit and some cereal malts. Taste is more of the salty and nice malt.

Bomber thanks to Toby and Jeremy. Pours a clear orange color with a small white head. A big earthy melon nose. Soft sweet malty base, light lemons, earthy dry biscuit. Very floral. Tasty and very smooth. Nice!

Draught at Stateside Craft, Vancouver
Amber color with compact head. The aroma and flavor are fruity and stale, mellow, a bit cloying, with no character; candies, some dust; low bitterness.
Not surprisingly, and American take at the style; not a bad beer, but utterly uninspiring.

On tap at St. Augustine's, pours a murky dark orangey brown with a small head. Nose brings out notes of banana, clove and toasted nuts. Flavour is well-balanced, again bringing out notes of banana and clove upfront, followed by toasted nuts and toasted malt. Decent beer, with everything in balance.

Murky dark amber color with compact head. Quite a lot of bubblegum, moderate but annoying sweetness, very low Weizen character, low bitterness. It’s lightly fruity, and at least it’s not yeasty.
Definitively not a German hand.

On tap at Stateside Craft, pours a clear copper with a small white head. Aroma brings out vegetal notes, some funky herbal notes and mushroom. Flavour brings out loads of mushroom and other weird fungal qualities - not unusual for the style, just not so pleasing. Not very enjoyable - way too vegetal, fungal and herbal. A miss for me.

On tap at Stateside Craft, pours a murky amber brown with a small off-white head. Aroma brings out toasted nuts, dry toffee, and bready malts. Flavour is well-balanced, with toasted bready malts, nuts and even a little cocoa, with some faint clove-like spice and a touch of banana in back. Very cohesive and well-constructed beer. Good stuff.

On tap at Stateside Craft, pours a clear copper / amber with a small off-white head. Aroma is fruity upfront, with toasted nuts in back - substantial sweetness. Flavour is similar, though thankfully not as fruity - bringing out dark fruits, toffee and toasted nuts to dry things out a bit. A little sweeter than typical dunkels, but it works. Decent one.

On tap at Stateside Craft, pours a clear pale copper yellow with a small white head. Aroma smells authentic enough, with dry grains and grassy hops. Flavour is fairly bland, even for a pilsner, but brewed to style, with lots of grains and subtle grassiness. Not the most exciting pils, but drinkable and well-balanced. Not bad.
