Description
Crouch Vale Brewery was established in 1981 by two beer enthusiast. The brewery was cobbled up from whatever was available cheaply. In 2006 a new brewery, purpose-built and capable of much more consistent and better product quality, was opened. However, the original production ethos was (and still is) maintained – ingredients are purchased on quality rather than price and the brewery is still manned by real people, who hand-craft the beers.

[Cask at the Royal Standard, Wooburn Common.] A bright amber pour with a tight white head; fresh grassy aroma; surprisingly full bodied with grass and straw flavours and a hint of farmyard; then a light bitterness and a sweet bready finish. Good.

[Cask at the Royal Standard, Wooburn Common.] A bright amber pint with a loose white head; attractive aroma of earthy apricot; soft jammy fruit taste with a biscuity malt body; then some gentle spicy hops and a fruity toffee finish. Very good.

Gravity dispense at the Royal Standard, Wooburn Common, 19/01/19. Extremely dark mahogany brown with a decent beige cap formed of bubbles. Nose is bourbon biscuit, cocoa sprinkle, dark malts, toffee. Taste comprises chocolate, light spice, dried fruits, brown sugar, brown bread. Medium bodied, soft to moderate carbonation, semi drying close. Decent enough porter.

[Cask at the Royal Standard, Wooburn Common.] A flat looking cola brown pour; with an aroma of coffee and roasted malts; rather thin in the mouth with well roasted chocolate malts; and a dry, earthy, nutty finish with some warmth. Ultimately satisfying.

Coggleshall Beer Festival. Cask. Bright clear gold beer, good bubbly white head. Light and semi dry palate, good fine crispness. Lovely condition. Light malts, medium sweet. Good crisp orange, tangerine and mandarin hops. Trace of pine precedes a mild bitterness. Nice cask 🍺, clean, crisp and hoppy.

Cask at CBC, Clerkenwell on 21st November 2018. Clear amber with shallow foam and scant lacing. Rich and intense hoppy aroma and pungent solid hoppiness in-mouth. An intense hoppy and grassy finish. Zingy mouthfeel and plenty of body. Utterly exquisite.
