Malty aroma is dominant after a pour of cloudy gold brew and off-white head. This beer first tastes sweet - orange and plum and flowers and sweet malts - and then leaves a bitter aftertaste. Thin to medium body and lacking the crispness of many distinctive IPAs. Overall, it lacks pizazz.

2004 bottle at Julio’s Spring Beer Fest, 4/02/05. Golden body, with a small white head, mostly dissipating to bubbles. Clear. Aroma of dry grains, a bit of grass and dry nuts and paper.... Flavor is bland, with drying wheat, grassy hops, low bitterness and just a plain water and neutral pale malt flavor. Very watery and light bodied, no sweetness to be found. Moderate carbonation.

2004 bottle at Julios Spring Beer Fest, 4/02/05. Yellow-orange, slight copper tinges and a small, rapidly receding white head. Aroma of fruity orange jam, sweet peaches and light caramel sweetness. Flavor is very fruity, lightly citrusy and has a strong malt presence of caramel and honey sweetness. Body seems a bit too light for my tastes, with very low carbonation and much thinning on the end. Still, the flavor is grand, with no over-the-top bitterness and a good focus on both malt and hops.

Dark gold ale with a light white head. Strong diacetyl whiff in aroma. Sweet butterscotch and fruity taste, with sweet apples and pineapple. Overbearing and difficult to drink. Tap. CNY Brewfest Feb. 5 2005.

The Benchwarmer has a large creamy head of off white over a clear dark brown body with some ruby highlights at the edges. Light chocolate aroma and the flavor is both lightly sweet yet with a nice roast malt bitterness to balance. Creamy mouthfeel.

Opaque black body with a massive chunky dark Mocha head. Chocolate and coffee dominate the aroma. Chocolate and coffee again in the flavor with a slightly bitter roast malt touch. The body is a bit thin, but this remains a good drinkable Stout that will have it’s followers. I’d accept it as a Porter too.

This is a beautiful beer to look at, tall head of dense foam, clear amber body. Nice malt aroma perfumed with a hint of floral hops. The flavor is sweet with a mild hop bitterness in the finish. Very drinkable and enjoyable.

Clear amber color with a tall chunky head that had a good hang time. Aroma was bready. No real strong hop presence, but just enough to keep this from being overly sweet. Well balanced, but a rather tame and easy drinking middle-of-the road ale.

2004 bottle. Pours a mahogany brown, with some darker coal black colors and a big tan head. Aroma has hints of treacle and molasses, good strong coffee roast with lightly sweet notes. Flavor is roasty, lightly bitter and has tons of coffee. For a coffee porter, this one provides ample sweet chocolate/caramel malting, a bit of dry nuttiness on the finish and very little thinning. That seems to be the kicker for me lately with porters; Does it get watery and thin?? Not this one (not much anyways). Pretty good chewy texture with a good medium body.

Bottle conditioned. This gushed heavily when poured, and sliding it down the side of the glass didn’t help either. After this huge head turned itself back into beer, it had a hazy yellow-orange color. The aroma was that of lemon drop cookie dough. The palate was smooth and the flavor was nicely hopped and well balanced. It had a nicely bitter finish. Not a bad IPA.
