Description
Kiuchi Brewery (木内酒造) is a brewery in Naka, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan. It was established in 1823 by village headman Kiuchi Gihei as a sake and shochu producer. Craft beer production began in 1996 after a change in Japanese law governing micro brewing. A number of Kiuchi's products seek to combine European beer-making technology with traditional Japanese brewing techniques; for example, its XH Hitachino Nest Beer is matured in shochu casks.

350ml bottle from RusBeerShop in Moscow. Pours almost clear gold with a small white head. Aroma is herbal, woody, grass, pale malt. Taste is dry, malt, herbal, wood. Medium bitter finish. Light to medium bodied.

Can @ home. Clear golden body under a moderate sized off-white head. Aroma has malt, citric fruits, oranges and tangerine. Taste is smooth, soft malt, citric fruit, bitter orange zest and some bitter hops. Balanced body with a smooth and slightly sharp fruity bitter aftertaste. Nice and slightly unusually IPA in the classic direction.

Yellow orange pour into hitachino glass. A weird sugary maltiness combined with hints of orange. Some hop finish. Not my favorite hitachino.

12oz bottle. Well it says German style but this was pure hitachino, tasted like a slightly darker version of the white ale. Poured fizzy and very clear for a hefe, a lot more of that lemony zip you get from the white ale. Clean finish. If they just called this a witte I’d be happier with it.
