Description
Since 1975, Boon Brewery has been owned and run by Frank Boon, one of the pioneers of the authentic lambic and gueuze revival. But the first signs of the brewery date back to 1680, as a farm-brewery and distillery in the village of Lembeek. In 1860 Louis Paul bought the brewery to brew only lambic and faro. From 1875, he began bottling gueuze lambic. In 1898, Pierre Troch bought the brewery. But after the economic crisis of 1927, it came into the hands of Joseph De Vits. His son, Rene is renowned for the production of soft and fine gueuze lambic. As Rene De Vits had no children, he sold the brewery to Frank Boon.

Draught @ 16th Weekend of Spontaneous Fermentation 2007, Optal. Murky medium orange color with virtyally none head. Aroma is moderate to heavy sweet, hops, malty, dust. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet (fresh sweet / like young ! ) with a average duration. Body is light to medium, texture is watery, carbonation is soft. Once in a lifetime experience.

This is a nice framboise. By the looks of the bottle, I think the best buy date is 2008 - I’m not sure how long they project these, but lambics can go awhile, so I figure this one has been around awhile, which is consistent with the beers I’ve been getting in FL. This was the first time I was scared of the sediment in a beer, which came out during the last pour, thick chunky and black! I decanted the better part of my glass into another glass and dumped the rest. Otherwise the beer was good, pouring an orangey red color with a foaming but fast pinkish head. Funky barnyardy, leathery and raspberryish aroma, with a hint of pitty earthiness. Flavor nicely sour, really just about the perfect amount of acidity: hard, but not overly acetic. Complemented, rather than cut, with a sweet raspberry undertone. Drying finish, with lingering woody notes. Light refreshing palate with good carbonation. Good one.

Draught at the Weekend of Spontaneous Fermentation 2007
Very hazy brown body. Sweet aroma of citrus, hops, malts, with a dusty overlay. Lightly bodied, very sweet flavour with some bitterness. Weird, but not very good. Like drinking wort. Thanks to Frank Boon for providing this beer. It was unique!

750ml bottle@Kristiansand lambic festival. 2002 compared with 2003 version (drunk 2007). No significant difference between the vintages. Hazy slightly orange body with a moderate head. Nice mild aroma, fruity with just a little hint of acid. Flavor is also moderate sour with a nice hint of cellar notes. I actually believe I found some traces of cherry pit here. Quite nice but I prefer the sour wildness of the Mariage Parfait Gueze.

Starker Karamellgeruch. Milder Antrunk, ein leichtes Karamellaroma ist präsent. Wässrig-süß, etwas getreidig, eigenartig. Wasserabgang mit leichtem Hopfenaroma, weiterhin gut erkennbar mit Karamellnote. Interessant! Test vom 29.5.2007, Gebinde: Fass Noten: -,9,9,9,-,9 - 9,00

Draught Muddy, murky beer with of course no head. Sweetish nose, worts, speculoos , burnt cakerind. Like very young, sweet worts, unhopped still. A bit of candi sugar, malts, but dusty old casks. Despite the fact that this is totally fermented out (only linked glucosides left), the Bretts not included, this is still pretty well-bodied, slick. Extremely interesting stuff. It’s not what one would drink daily, or during an evening, but it is not un-nice.

Pours a bright gold into a Tumbler. Fluffy bright white head quickly fills the glass and slowly recedes. Sour lemon and yeast aromas. Dry, tart and slight metallic. Full, sour with a lasting tart lemon finish. More fruity than cheesy.

Huge white lasting head. Hazy deep yellow body with slow carbonation. Deep waxy barnyard aroma with wooden floral marzipan notes. Clean and fresh. Strong dry-acidic wooden floral apple taste with barnyard metal notes. Mid-bodied. Sharp mouthfeel, slightly fizzy. Sharply dry herbal wooden floral aftertaste with barnyard and mineral notes. Highly unusual, and a much fuller-bodied geuze than the norm. I found it very drinkable. (0.375l bottle, Beer Palace, Oslo. Rated it in 2007, too, but didn’t understand it at all back then.)
