Description
Trappist ale has been brewed at the Abbey of Our Lady of Koningshoeven in Berkel-Enschot since 1884. The monks of the abbey are the origin of this ale. They are popularly called "Trappists", after the origin of their order: the French Soligny-La-Trappe. This order is characterized by austerity, silence and the duty of charity.

Within the abbey walls, Brewery de Koningshoeven produces Dutch Trappist ale. Still under the supervision and responsibility of the monks and still based on the inner conviction "to do good": part of the proceeds go to charities. These original principles provide La Trappe Trappist with the exclusive label "Authentic Trappist Product" from the International Trappist Association.

Between 1969 and 1980 the beers were produced under license by Artois (InBev). By 1999 the monastery had become a subsidery of Bavaria - Netherlands this resulted in La Trappe beers no longer displaying the Authentic Trappist Product label. In 2005 an agreement was reached by which the monks would take a more active part in the brewery operation and so the label was restored.

Amber with a bubbly, shortlived head. Fruity aroma, orange, raisin, banana and spices. Aftertaste is a strange combination of banana and mint... Well balanced sweetness and bitterness.

Dark red-brown with a fine creamy, but disappearing head. Berries (raspberry, blackberry, strawberry) and citrus dominate the aroma, a rather fresh dubbel, I’d say. Flavour is quite sweet, caramel and berries, and lacks the dry finish I’d expect from an abbey dubbel. On the other hand, there is some hops that keeps it intteresting. Not bad, but not outstanding.

Little head that fades quickly. Medium body with a brown color. An alright taste but nothing special and I wouldnt want to try it again. This brewer has been disappointing me on all its beers. Something about these beers I just do not trust. It says Imported right on the bottle, does that mean they have different bottles in Europe or maybe they do not even have this beer in Europe, I dont know. P.S. the picture of a surreal creature eating a person is from Bosch. Why its the logo I have no idea.

Very pale straw - greenish shine. Thick white head. Nose yields coriander and wheat, no orange peel. Perfumed, sourish wheat-taste. Nothing exciting. Mouthfeel is completely empty and a bit cloying. Even as I don't like witbiers as a rule, this is a shame for La Trappe.

I thought this one was really given in to the problem I see often with belgian trippels. It's like drinking alcohol and yeast with some beer in it. Coincidentally, La Trappe were the first belgian-style beers (yes I know this is dutch) I ever tried. I couldnt figure out what the hype was about belgians until I tried other brands. The classic "dont judge a style by one particular brand".

A slightly unclear orange beer with a fantastic head. The aroma is primarily fruity but with soft wheat tones. Lovely flavor: orange, sweet, soft, round, wheat, and a sting of alcohol. Ending on a filling sweet note rather than bitterness. A great beer.

I drank the La Trappe Witte Trappist, new from La Trappe as i thought. Yellow slightly cloudy color, creamy white head. Fresh citrussy aroma. Spicy wheat taste, but a bit watery indeed, but also a bit yeasty. Refreshing citrus palate. Good belgian white, but not the best of the best.

One of my favorites. I prefer less malt, but still love it. I can taste a distinct hop character, almost like an oatmeal cookie, though not that yeasty. Wonderful blackish/blue swirls mix with a deep red color.
