Description
Looking for the real taste of Antwerp? Since 1833, there has been just one address: our Antwerp City Brewery. Because when people get together in Antwerp, they do so more often than not with a Bolleke Koninck in their hand. And that’s how De Koninck has become synonymous with Antwerp –and vice-versa. Every day, we work hard to uphold this proud tradition while also experimenting on ways to perfect and reinvent the taste of Antwerp.

Bottle: Clear, amber coloured, small stable foam; sweetish dark-malty nose with a touch of a vinous fruitiness and questionable tinge of cinnamon or coriander (?); moderate bitter-sweetish flavour, rather light bodied for a beer of 6.5% ABV; fruity and sweet-malty finish with a little lingering bitterness. O.K., no earthquake.......

Bottle. Almond and artificial cherry aroma. Orange amber, low head. Spicy almond cake - biscotti flavor really. Rather thin on the palate. Apple retronasal. Needs more oomph.

Draught at Paters Vaetje, Antwerp. Belgian yeasty blonde, quite creamy and full in mouth. Refreshing blonde with some citrus, but mostly yeasty. Good though. Dryish finish.

(Draught at Akkurat, Stockholm, 20 June) Colour is amber, with a foamy, lasting head. Nose is spicy, slightly fruity and yeasty. Taste is malty and spicy, with hints of yeast and caramel. A bit drier than expected and with a slightly metallic bitterness in the finish. Soft mouthfeel. An ok and reliable beer, but not really exciting. Go for the draught version rather than the bottled if possible.
