Description
Looking for the real taste of Antwerp? Since 1833, there has been just one address: our Antwerp City Brewery. Because when people get together in Antwerp, they do so more often than not with a Bolleke Koninck in their hand. And that’s how De Koninck has become synonymous with Antwerp –and vice-versa. Every day, we work hard to uphold this proud tradition while also experimenting on ways to perfect and reinvent the taste of Antwerp.

First rating: Small white head; red-brown body. Faint acidic fruity aroma. Lightly acidic fruity taste with light licorice notes. Dryish watery fruit aftertaste. Decent, but no more, for a supposed Belgian. (0.33l bottle.) 5,4,6,3,12=3.0

Second rating: Big offwhite head. Clear brown body. Fruity blackberry aroma. Sweet-dryish spicy blackberry taste with mealy notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Dryish mealy fruity aftertaste with minty blackberry notes. It’s a decent beer, but not very pale ale-like. (0.33l bottle, from Systembolaget, Torp. Under the name De Koninck APA, which is the same old beer.) 5,4,6,3,11=2.9

Medium beige head. Deep dark body. Light acidic spicy aroma with touches of licorice. Deep acidic raspberry taste, somewhat watery. Dry, raspberry aftertaste with metallic notes lingering. ot bad, and quite drinkable, but nothing too special. Definitely not a winter warmer by Belgian standards. (0.33l draft.)

75 cL bottle. Pours with whith and short-living head. Clear smell of of "De Koninck"-hops. Elements of yeast too. Taste is classical de Koninck with hops and malt. On top of this is a sweet taste of cinnamon together with vinous fruity/fig-like taste. Almost creamy texture but still light bodied. I’m not much of a De Koninck fan, this is better than their other beers, but still not amongst the best Belgian seasonal ales.
