Bottle Pours a hazy slightly orange auburn. Very nice, dense offwhite head with real staying power. Aroma is very carmelish and lots of piney hops. Sweet malt flavors, but subdued. Quite strong bittering with grapefruit pith notes. Full heavy mouth feel and long, bitter aftertaste. Bitter bu not as much flavor as I had hoped. Can’t go far wrong with Deschtues though...

Best before 2/10/2006 bottle sampled with OldGrowth on 1/1/2006. Transluscent, deep coal brown, moderate tan head with good retention, though it is not overly fluffy or full. Licorice, barley, and a touch of coffee begin to emanate from the glass, but are lost amid a dry, bitter, dulling black-patent malt-like note. Seems to weaken the aroma. No hops or yeast present either. Fortunately, the flavor seems nothing like the aroma (oddly enough), bringing creamy coffee to the table, with light caramel and playful acidity from the roast. Medium body overall, with a silky texture. Chocolatey and creamy, with all of your stout flavors, yet not overdone. Very low hop apparency, no fruitiness. Easy drinking, yet by no means simple and obsolete. It brings a richness of flavor, with no alcohol apparency, that few stouts of this gravity are able to match these days. Hell, there just arent many of these being made any more. Refreshing and drinkable without comprimising flavor is a fantastic trait (if I may interject my opinion) that more beers need to have. Barley flakes, light choco-coffee notes and low to moderate carbonation which is relatively unnoticed. If I could just get a little more out of the aroma. . . .

Best before 3/3/2006 bottle, consumed on 1/1/2006 with OldGrowth. Well integrated chocolate and vanilla in the nose, with soft roast and light earthy barley notes. Light vinousness is hinted at. A dark brown color, with ruby highlights, mostly clear and with no sediment on the bottom. Small beige colored head is not particularly retained well, but does remain at cover. Smells almost oaty, though overall, the aroma is very low in strength. Upon drinking, the texture is lightly gritty, with prickly carbonation at first, but soon a nutty, chewy, caramel and milk chocolate flavor arises. Light cherries and dates, raisins and cinnamon, all rather subtle, but there. Medium-light body, though not thin. For being bottle conditioned, the carbonation is rather frisky. Light roast lingers and light fruitiness in the aroma softens things as it begins to warm. Light graham cracker dryness and ends rather lively still, with a touch of wateriness. Big thanks to FlacoAlto for the bottle!!

Has that classic hazy amber look that is synonymous with American Pale Ale. Nose is moderate, standard grapefruit and wood stuff. This beer has always underwhelmed me out of the bottle, whereas on tap and cask I’ve been a big fan. Flavour is moderate bitterness, orangey notes, bits of whole wheat bread malts and a litlte phenolic note that I often find when cascades begin to oxidize a bit. As I said, in bottle this is a pretty ho-hum example, going straight down the middle of the style.

Bottle. Mahogony beer with a light beige head. Spicey aroma with some hops. Spicey flavor with some caramel and roasty malts and resiny/citrus hops. Nicely balanced - though some may put it a bit on the hoppy side.

Bottle. Rich amber beer with a nice off-white head. Citrus hop aroma with sweet malt. Very dtrong hop aroma. Sweet malt and citrus flavor, but not enough to match the aroma. Lighter bodied than expected. Low bitterness, but some hop flavor.

Hazy orangey-amber colour. The aroma is woody, orangey (mandarins) with a minty, almost bubblegummy sweetness. Those orangey hop notes continue in the palate. Fresh, maybe a bit green, with hints of pine. Malt balance is soft, slightly juicy and very even. Clean, hoppy finish. Fairly full body for the style. Civilized APA, very refined, elegant.

Bottle pours a clear light mahogany with very little head and only spotty lacing. Very nice aroma of sweet malts and citrusy hops and fruits like apples, mangos, pears etc. Flavor is a bit of wet cardboard and lightly hopped. Basic straight forawar flavors and a nice full feel Very litel lingering bitterness. Nice
