330ml bottle. Pours a cloudy red brown with a medium, foamy, long, lasting, beige head that leaves sticky curtains of soapy lace. Sweet aroma of bready caramel malt, Belgian yeast, candi sugar, plum, raisin and thyme. Sweet flavour of bready caramel malt, orange peel, candi sugar, plum, Belgian yeast and thyme in a dry, warming booze finish. Full body with a thick, creamy, smooth texture and soft carbonation. Malt forward, enjoyable and the abv is well hidden.

On tap at Hops, Crewe. Pours almost black with minimal tan head. There’s dried fruit and spices in the aroma. In the mouth it is sweet and juicy, but with a touch of bitterness too. Flavour starts off with raisins, orange peel and spices. Traces of figs and chocolate come later as does a whole dollop of alcoholic strength, leading to a dry finish. Nice by name, nice by taste !
