Description
The Rothaus Brewery was founded 1791 through the Benedictine monastery St. Blasien in the “Zum Rothen Haus” inn (“To the Red House” in English). Following the secularizations of 1806, the Rothaus Brewery fell out of the hands of the monks and became property of the Grand Duchy of Baden and was renamed the “Großherzogliche Badische Staatsbrauerei Rothaus” (Grand Ducal State Brewery Rothaus of Baden). The November Revolution of 1918, which led to the abolition of the monarchy in Baden, caused the company to shorten their name to Badische Staatsbrauerei Rothaus (State-owned brewery of Baden), as from then on the brewery was owned by the federal state of Baden.

Since 1922, the company has had the legal form of a stock corporation, the shares of which are currently held entirely by the associated company of the state of Baden-Württemberg. The continuously large demand for Rothaus beer has in the past made large investments necessary. This allowed the Rothaus Brewery to grow into one of the most modern facilities in Germany.

One of the better weizens (IMHO). Cloudy amber with a thick, fluffy head. Aroma is right on the money and flavor is too, although more wheat/bread than banana. Nice.

Purchased at the Kaufland supermarket in Eppingen, DE; enjoyed after a meal finished with grappa. I’m really liking the design of this label, looks very old world/retro. Appearance is a cloudy/hazy gold with a thin white head. Aroma is strong in banana and clove, nice fruity esthers, definite sweetness. Taste is pretty good, a little sweeter than the other German weiss beers I’ve had on my trip, pretty good in flavor.

Bottle from corner shop in Berlin, Germany on 28th September 2012. Slightly yeasty hoppy aroma. Grassy hop in-mouth, sharpish citrus toward the end with hoppiness fruit and tanginess in finish. Zingy with a fair amount of body.

500ml bottle. Clear golden colour with average, firm, frothy, white head. Grainy, grassy aroma. Taste is initially minimally tart grainy, a mineralic touch takes over in the middle part, strange dry, grassy, "spelty" aftertaste.

50 cl. bottle obtained in a trade with drunkenaim I think // thx. // @ home // mushy apricot coloured with a creamy white head // smell is pure banana bubblegum, lots of banana with some soft wheat, light spice and touch floral // taste is oodles of creamy banana, it is milkshake like, thick yeast and some creamy wheat, touch bitter floral, white pepper and spice in the back // full creamy wheat body // it is like a hefe-milkshake, this is great and just what I was looking for
