Description
Fort George Brewery + Public House sits on the original settlement site of Fort Astoria, founded in 1811. The oldest US settlement west of the Rockies, Fort Astoria was the Pacific Fur Company's primary trading post in the Northwest. Fort George opened its doors to Astoria as both a brewery and a public house, and that desire to serve the community continues to this day. The brewers and pub staff here share a common goal, to create a welcoming space where anyone in town can pull up a stool and enjoy a pint and a bite to eat. We take pride in our house-made offerings and our hospitality, and we’re always looking for improvements that bring us one step closer to perfection. It’s a goal Sisyphus could appreciate, even if he doesn’t have as much fun pushing that rock as we do rolling those kegs. And that’s why we like to call Fort George beer the best beer you’ve had today. Tomorrow it will only be better.

Draft at zwanze. Aroma is chocolaty, whiskey, hint of peach, vanilla. Pours black with a large tan head with excellent retention. Taste is sweet and savory with some bitterness around the edges. Flavors of booze, chocolate, light peach. Perfectly carbonated creamy mouthfeel. A little too sweet for me.

12oz during spontaneous mini-tasting @ Ryan's.
Aroma: American oak, bold, sweet, fruity.
Taste: along the same lines, probably a little bit too sweet, though. Brown sugars. Noticeable grilled peaches in aftertaste.
Overall: good one.

Draft. Black beer with a low brown head. Whiskey aroma. Whiskey and chocolate flavor with vanilla. Medium-plus bodied. Whiskey and chocolate linger with vanilla and caramel. More subtle flavor with an almost brandy flavor for the whiskey highlighting the fruitier side.

On tap at McKay's. Pours nearly black with a beige head. Bread crusts and dry sugars on the nose. Flavour has dry old sugars, crusts. Maybe I'm drunk, but this tastes like any old stout.

Can from Tavour. Pours clear gold with a moderate foamy white head. Aroma of tropicals with a light garlic/green onion note. Med body. Pretty dry. Pretty bitter. Pretty - no quite - dank. Flavor is quite a mix - lots of tropicals - including dank - but that allium character is quite present. Malt is nicely obscured. Long persisting dank bitterness. Great ale.
