Description
Fort George Brewery + Public House sits on the original settlement site of Fort Astoria, founded in 1811. The oldest US settlement west of the Rockies, Fort Astoria was the Pacific Fur Company's primary trading post in the Northwest. Fort George opened its doors to Astoria as both a brewery and a public house, and that desire to serve the community continues to this day. The brewers and pub staff here share a common goal, to create a welcoming space where anyone in town can pull up a stool and enjoy a pint and a bite to eat. We take pride in our house-made offerings and our hospitality, and we’re always looking for improvements that bring us one step closer to perfection. It’s a goal Sisyphus could appreciate, even if he doesn’t have as much fun pushing that rock as we do rolling those kegs. And that’s why we like to call Fort George beer the best beer you’ve had today. Tomorrow it will only be better.

From Good Times Oakland, canned March 24th 2025.

Pours a clear gold with lively carbonation, huge and growing head of foam. Excellent retention and lacing.

Smells of the double dry hopping, big citrus, floral, toasted malt is there.

Taste is fruity hops, citrus, some caramel malt sweetness, pretty lovely bitterness. Dry but yet a little bit juicy.

Slick medium bodied, this is satisfying.

Aroma is woody, whiskey, molasses, vanilla, licorice, dark chocolate, earthy, raisin. Taste is moderately to highly sweet with a firmly bitter edge. Strong flavors of molasses and licorice followed by the other aroma descriptors. It’s good, but a little too sweet for me to be top tier, especially for an unadulterated stout with no adjuncts.

Aroma is woody, tobacco, toffee, dark fruit, dried fruit, whiskey, sherry. Taste is highly sweet (although not as sweet as many barleywines of this ilk), moderately bitter, and slightly tart. Top tier barleywine.

Canned March 27th 2025, from Good Times Oakland.

Gorgeous clear pale gold, substantial head of foam, good retention and lacing.

Smell is piney, resinous aroma, light toasted malt, very inviting.

Taste is pine, citrus light fruity hoppiness, toasted malt, all in all, almost as good as the smell.

Sticky mouthfeel, which I dig.

Excellent IPA.

Aroma has notes of tangerine, pineapple, biscuity malt. Taste has a light building to moderate bitterness with lots of juicy hop character. A lot better than Vortizafa.
