Description
Fort George Brewery + Public House sits on the original settlement site of Fort Astoria, founded in 1811. The oldest US settlement west of the Rockies, Fort Astoria was the Pacific Fur Company's primary trading post in the Northwest. Fort George opened its doors to Astoria as both a brewery and a public house, and that desire to serve the community continues to this day. The brewers and pub staff here share a common goal, to create a welcoming space where anyone in town can pull up a stool and enjoy a pint and a bite to eat. We take pride in our house-made offerings and our hospitality, and we’re always looking for improvements that bring us one step closer to perfection. It’s a goal Sisyphus could appreciate, even if he doesn’t have as much fun pushing that rock as we do rolling those kegs. And that’s why we like to call Fort George beer the best beer you’ve had today. Tomorrow it will only be better.

Dark brown, thin head. There's some nice umami on the nose, with barley wine influence, chocolate. A bit of carbonation here. A good toasty note, lots of barrel...not super refined but still good whiskey,

500mL bottle. Pours black with a beige head. Lots of bourbon and barley, brown bread on the nose. Flavour has rich barley, bourbon barrels, stale bread crusts. Bourbon is a bit too boozy on the finish. Overall very good.

12 oz. can, pours a lightly hazed golden blonde with a medium white head. Nose reveals the tangy hops from the Nelson upfront, along with pine, and crisp biscuity malt. Flavour is surprisingly bitter and well-hopped for a pale ale, with bright tangy hops, bitter pine, and a crispy biscuity malt underbelly. Beautiful combo of the Nelson and Columbus. Excellent.

Aroma has notes of chocolate, wood. Taste is bittersweet with flavors of roasted chocolaty malts and light barrel influence.

Pale, gold, medium head. Clean, nice pale malt, medium bitterness, and it has that wonderful Idaho 7 spiciness to it. Well made, delicious IPA.

16.9 oz. bottle, pours black, almost no head. Nose is full of intense peanuts and marshmallow upfront, wrapped up in nice bourbon barrels. Flavour is complex, with a nice melange of peanuts, marshmallow, bourbon barrels, vanilla, and some cocoa. Cohesive, complex, and wonderfully structured. Excellent.

500mL bottle. Pours very dark brown with minimal head. Tons of marshmallow, peanuts, and hazelnut on the nose. Flavour has a similar line-up of adjuncts with a solid roasty malt base and well-integrated bourbon barrels.
