Draught at Alibi Room, Vancouver
Dark brown color, thin head. Dark malts, mildly roasted, some spices, and a bit too much yeast; quite dry.
Belgian name for a German style?
I don’t know what I’m drinking. Not too bad, but I know I’m not too excited about it.

Draft - Sweet and flowery grains. Clear gold with a decent white head. Sweet, touch of perfume and Belgian yeasts. A bit sweet but style appropriate. Decent.

Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver
Dark amber-red color with no head. Mild aroma of Cherries and ripe apples. A bit sweet, a bit sour, a bit fruity, but overall blended with a earthy feeling and some vegetables, that create a chaotic result.
Not very pleasant.

650mL bottle, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out perfume, barrel notes, and cocoa. Flavour is heavy on what seem like JD barrels above anything, which give this a very cheap tasting quality. Not a trainwreck, but lacking any complexity. Not so good.

On tap at St. Augustine's, pours a hazy dark amber with a medium beige head. Aroma brings out lots of acidity, red berries and a little vinegar. Flavour is along the same lines, with notes of sour red berries, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce and an acidic finish. Don't think it's as abominable as Oakes, but this isn't a very good concoction. Disharmonious, acidic and too vinegary. Meh.

Bomber, modest head, okay brown, nuttiness on the nose and hints of hops, soft molasses, sharpness. Flavour has hints of coffee, nut, sour chocolate. Weak on the mouth, needs a little more oomph. Promise, but it hasn’t arrived yet.

Bottle from Blackfish Pub’s liquor store in GIbsons. Dullish amber-red, no head. The nose is bland vague toasty amber malts. On the palate, nothing doing. Bit of sweetness, touch of sour but the sour isn’t ready yet, the amber malts clash and nothing even remotely comes together.

On tap. Pours a reddish copper with light head. Aromas of light red berries and a little wood. Flavors are same with only a light tartness. Thin. Not offensive but nothing special.

On tap at the Alibi Room, pours a hazy golden orange with a small white head. Aroma is heavy on the dry hopping with lots of floral notes, followed by Belgian yeast - very dry smelling. Flavour is along the same lines, with floral hops and light Belgian yeast in good harmony. Rather astringent but in a pretty nice way. Simply but executed very well. Good stuff.
