Tartaruga Fine Brewing

Client Brewer in Soignies, Hainaut, Belgium 🇧🇪

Established in 2015

Description
Each summer Patrizio was driving to Italy to visit his family with his trunk packed with Belgian beers. During long evenings people were gathering on the terrace to taste the famous "birra belga". As a pastime Patrizio made small turtles with the hood wires of the bottles and gave them to the children. Every evening, the kids were asking him: "please make me a turtle (tartaruga in Italian)". Remembering these joyful moments, the name Tartaruga came as a natural choice when brewing its first beer in 2013. Since then Patrizio has been brewing its beers in collaboration with NovaBirra. In January 2015, Tartaruga Fine Brewing was born! And for the sake of keeping a higher level of quality Patrizio has chosen the De Ranke brewery in Dottignies to go and brew himself all its beers.

Cloudy somewhat murky medium amber colour, tall loose frothy white head, slowly diminishing, little adhesive, patchy lacing. Aroma sweet malt, rye, orange marmalade, honey, overripe fruit, caramel. Taste medium sweet and bitter, toasted malts, rye, fruity (orange, peach), honey notes, bit yeast. Medium body, oily texture, average carbonation, dry sweetbitter aftertaste, toasted malt, citrus peel, herbal notes. A good rich and nicely layered brew.

Bottle, 0.33l. Aroma of caramel, flowers, yeast, wheat and dried fruit. Pours cloudy bronze color with thick creamy off-white head and average sparkling appearance. Taste starts sweet caramelly, resinous and tart ripe fruity, follows by toasted malt, herbs and dried fruit, mouthfeel is warm and mild spicy, while finish is heavy bitter. Full body, oily texture and lively carbonation in palate. Sweet, but luckily without palm oil...

330ml bottle from Bierhalle Deconinck. Hazed chestnut amber appearance, off-white crown. Fruity malty sweet nose. Plummy, leafy malt loaf tones to this red ale overall.. Smooth on the palate, a touch chewy with a confident Citra bitterness. Comes together well. Nice.

Bottle, huge thanks poech! Murky red body, thick, creamy off white head. BIg, dry aroma, malty, some vague flowery hoppy touches, sweetish caramelly notes, dried fruit, bit woody. Dead? Yeah, pretty much dead. Lean taste, sweetish, well hidden alcohol, dried fruit again, very light phenolic touches, some light light citric touches really, and that's it. almost 10 months old and it shows, eh. Still a drinkable beer, but need to rerate this fresh.

Bottle from Beergium. Murky amber, offwhite head. Fruity, sweet citrusy and malty aroma, floral honey notes. Malty, citrusy flavour, orange, emon, some herbal notes. Quite decent despite a couple of months past bbd.

Medium to good, dense, foxy cream coloured head, irregular, fed by finely carbonated clear amber beer; end of bottle solid yeast. Roasted caramel, heated raspberries, also the leaves of raspberry bushes, hot cherry coulis, toasted malts. More caramel in the mouth, less specific fruit. Some leafy notes, sweets. Finish is a bit lean. Light to medium bodied, medium to good carbonation, yeastslick. Nose is remarkable, as no fruit is actually added. The rest is maybe a tad to plain. Thanks to Stef!
