750 ml bottle #00474 of a total of 10630. 2008 Vintage. Pour is hazed copper cordovan with a thick 3 inch head that is lasting and leaves beautiful lacing. The lacing etches the glass for the remainder of the evening. Aroma of caramel nuttiness, soft Bourbon notes and a floral grassy character. Nice delicate, melded nose. Taste is the caramel malt notes right away, followed by a touch of bourbon, woodiness and a soft alcohol heat. Way in the back is the cherry sweetness. The grassiness from the nose is present, holding it all together. Nothing really jumps out, its just really blended and meld nicely. Really gentle, unlike many BA beers I have had. Bourbon becomes more pronounced as it warms. Palate is smooth, medium with very little lingering bourbon or alcohol. Nice. (8,5,8,4,16 - 4.1)

Sampled on tap at the Boulevard tasting at Lukas Wine Bar in KCMO. Pour is brown, amberish with a tan head. I was told this was aged for two months in Bourbon barrels, and that is the initial aroma that I pick up. Additionally, there is sweetness in the aroma, almost raisin. The taste is very nice. A bunch of complexity, certainly the raisin, oak and bourbon come through on this, with almost a Rochefort 10 body. Finish is a touch hot, but not unexpected. (8,4,8,4,16 - 4.0)

750 ml bottle purchased at Lukas in Kansas City, MO. Batch number S8254. Pour hazed white yellow copper with a fluffly and lasting 3 inch white head. Nice lacing as the head falls. Aroma of soft, gentle wheat grain, with a great yeastiness of clove behind that. Nice mineral elemnt, along with some faint citrus hops. Engaging nose, lovely. Taste is the grainy citric wheat, with clove spice yeastiness. Foolowing is nice clean hop bitterness that finishes beautifully along with the clove and white pepper of the yeast. The mineral element is ever preseny and is flinty. Palate is nicely carbonated, medium with a dryish finish. Really nice saison. (9,4,8,4,17 - 4.2)

750 ml bottle, corked and caged, enjoyed at Blanc Burgers in Leawood, Kansas. Pour (into a Boulevard Chalice, mach 2 - nice touch Blanc!) is a hazy cloudy yellow golden with a thick and lasting white head. As the head falls, nice lacing is left behind. Pretty beer. Aroma is earthy, grainy wheat, with a touch of lemon citrus behind that. Behind the malt and hops is the yeastingess, which is also earthy and spicy. Overall a nice, layered nose. Taste is the nose, for the most part, with the grainy wheat taking the initial step forward, the citrus lemon close behind and the earthy spicy yeastiness taking over the finish. There is also a sweetness to the taste that was not present in the nose, and did detract a bit. Palate has nice carbonation, medium bodied with an earthy brief, dry finish. This was really good with the spicy lentil burger. Nice one. (9,5,8,4,16 - 4.2)

Sample at the Boulevard tasting at Lukas Wine Bar in KCMO. This is a preview of the "Smokestack Series" expected to be released in September of 2007. Pour is cloudy yellow and a nice white head. Aroma is great, citrus, grapefruit, yeastiness and a bit of wet dirt. Taste is very smooth, with the citrus and grapefruit shining through. This is a very nice sipping brew, though not nearly as complex as other Saisons I have tried. It was a delight having a Saison on tap, though. (8,4,7,4,15 - 3.8)

It doesn’t suck, so that is good at least. Light, wheaty aroma. the beer is dark, opaque brown. I couldn’t pick up any sediment. They got the flavor right, although it is a little too light. Sweet, with some banana and wheat. Does anyone think they just might be trying to take some market share from Blue Moon?

I am not sure if Boulevard tweaked the recipe on this beer or not, but it is tasting MUCH better than I remember. The aroma is brighter, full wheat, citrus and yeast. The flavor is very alive and bright - the wheat balanced nicely with the lemon and orange citrus. Overall, I am enjoying this beer much more than I remember. 6,4,8,3,15 (3.6)

Bottle. Pour is a cloudy yellow with a billowing white head. Aroma is yeast and wheat, and a bit of the hop. Nothing exceptional about taste, straight forward American wheat. I prefer this beer greatly in bottle versus on tap. 6,3,6,3,13 (3.1)

Fair dunkelweizen. Poured a hazy reddish copper with a foaming quick head. Spicy bready aroma like rye or pumpernickel bread, with an extra fruity component. Flavors sweet and spicy, zesty, yeasty, wheaty, with a mild clove component in both aroma and flavor. Light to medium palate, fizzy, with a short finish. Decent beer.

12 oz bottle part of a mixed 12 pack purchased at Royal Liquor in Kansas City, Missouri. Best by 07/12/10 printed on the bottle. Poured into my Free State Willebecher. Pour is a mostly clear copper light brown with a firm two inch off white head that falls slowly with decent lacing. Aroma is grainy cereal earthy wheat and malt, followed quickly by the clove, mild banana and yeast spices. Fresh and unique nose, really love the big yeast of this beer. Taste is the cereal malt of the nose, but it also picks up a bit of a sharp sweetness that jumps out a bit, and does not necessarily play really well with the big yeast flavors that come in midway through the taste. The yeast is big clove, banana and light white pepper. The yeast dries out the finish, and leads to a spiced after taste that liners a bit. Palate is thin to medium bodied, with an oily texture that coats the mouth a bit. Overall, this is a really unique beer that throws quite a bit at you. (8,4,6,3,14 - 3.5). Interesting to see my rating and score are more or less identical to when I first had the beer over two years ago.

Tap, at Waldo Pizza, KCMO. Pour is bright brown with a nice off-white creamy head. Aroma is spice, coriander and bananas. Flavor is interesting, wheat body, but Belgian spiciness in the yeast. Body is a bit thinner than I would have expected, but still nice. Overall a nice addition to the Blvd lineup, but nothing that really knocks your socks off. I will say this - the yeast strain flavors make me very excited to try to the upcoming Belgian releases. (8,4,6,3,14 - 3.5)

Pour is a hazy brown with a small tan head. Aroma is banana with some spice and candi sugar. Flavor is way off the aroma. Some dark fruit come out but nothing to make this into a great beer. I don’t think i have ever had a beer that smelled so good but tasted so weak.

12 oz bottle from Royal in Kansas City, Missouri. Best by 04/12/10 stamped on the bottle. Pour is mostly clear copper amber with a thick full 2 inch light tan head. Aroma is mild biscuit caramel toasted malt along with a floral hoppiness. The two combine together for a sharpness, which makes it a bit abrasive. Taste is the sweetness of the nose, though now it’s equal parts caramel and fruit sweetness, followed by the floral hops and finishing with a nice mineral element. The meld and balance between malt and hops works better in the taste versus the nose. Palate is thin to medium, crisp and dry on the finish - real easy to drink. Overall, clean and well made for the style; a style which has never really excited me. (5,4,7,3,13 - 3.2)

Bottle. Pour is brown with just a touch of redness. Smallish head that faded fast. Aroma is real muted though I did get some hops and malt. Taste is nice, solid malt accented with hops and bitterness building in the middle with a nice solid bitter finish. Nice fullness to this as well. (5,4,7,4,13 - 3.3)

Bottle (from jetzler). Buttery malt aroma with hint of cherry. Hazy dark amber color with small head. Slightly sweet-sour malt flavor with hint of orange and nuts- mild hops finish. Well made - a great tasting lager.
