Bottle. Poured hazy gold with a white head. Aroma consisted of fruits and a touch of malts. Flavor had the presence of raspberries and while easy drinking, it is not complex in anyway.

Pour is a dark brown with a large tan head. Aroma is nice with lots of candi sugar, sweet dark fruit and a spice. Flavor is about the same just a little less noticable. Dark sugar is there plenty and leaves a sweetness on the tounge. Still i can’t really knock this as its a worthy effort.

22oz bomber. Deep red brown color with a foamy head. The aroma is sweet with a lots of choco-toffee nuances, and really little trace of alcohol, pretty nice in a weird way. Creamy and yeasty, there is an odd sour edge to this beer, an effect of the yeast no doubt. Smooth upfront, but a harsh burning sweet alcohol finish. Sort of your lowbrow would-be Belgian Dubbel, the kind that guy who yells at you in the back streets of east Brussels prefers...or that drunk dude in New Orleans as it were. Easy to drink due to it’s creamy mouthfeel, but other than that it’s hard to think of much positive to say. Sub par.

22oz bomber from DeVino’s in Columbia Heights, Washington DC. Pours a transparent, straw yellow with a frothy, active, white head. Pleasant aroma, sweet, slightly grainy, some sticky fruits (pear), slight apple, slight booze. Flavor is sweet and malty, sweet-sticky fruits, apples, pears, just a touch of hop bitterness. Sticky, full bodied finish. Sessionable, even at 8%, but unremarkable.

Hey, another Abita gem(?) courtesy of kiefdog. Pours deep gold with thin white head. It has a pretty full aroma with sweet malts and moving to grains, sugar, some honey and apples. The taste is similar beginning with a thick sweet mouthfeel and giving up sugar, malts, grains and honey. The honey note peaks about midway to briefly take control of the flavor. It ends pretty smooth with lingering grains and sweetness.

courtesy of kiefdog. Pours golden, thin white head. Aroma had the typical Abita scent with plenty of sweetness. Taste, malty, hoppy, fruit notes, brown sugar, light bitterness and grainy as well as alcohol presence. I am starting to wonder if Abita’s water that they keep talking about is not infecting their beers. Come on guys, you can do better than this..

golden clear, white head. Aroma of strawberry, berries, floral hops. Taste had some malt, strawberry was there but too light, some fruit tartness and hop bitterness. Actually this one wasn’t that bad, just has to be very fresh to be enjoyed. This could be a good beer, but just like purple haze, the fruits seem to get lost in a haze of themselves and become hard to be noticed. They could really make the fruit more present.

This beer type is obviously misclassified here. On the label, it states Helles - which is probably the intended truth. Clear golden coloured body with a tonne of bubbles rising from the bottom and sides. Thick tan head that stays afloat for quite a while! Aroma of fresh citrus, coriander seed, bright hops and an odd grassyness. Medium-bodied; Sharp malty flavours with a very strong and bright grassy and yeastie flavour. Aftertaste shows some citrus, a bit of curacao and some very mild spices. Overall, not such a great beer - but by no way ’bad’. I wouldn’t buy this again, but it’s much better than pretty much all of the other Abita beers I’ve had. However, I am disappointed of this brewery too jumping on the stupid large bottle bandwagon. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased at Whole Foods in Falls Church (Tyson’s Corner), Virginia on 13-February-2009, sampled at home in Washington on 05-April-2009.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours with a small white head over a clear golden body. Aroma of straw, fruity esters, dough, and a bit salty. Taste is fruity and a bit grassy with some corn notes. Light bubbles.

Bottled (CK). Hazy dark orange color, small white head. Lightly tart and metallic rasberry aroma. Watery, bland palate. Light fruityness, rasberry seeds flavor, a bit wheaty-grainy. Light sourness, not much, in the finish. Overall very watery and useless.
