Behind Mjøderiet stands five firefighters from Bergen with a passion for mead - an ancient cultural drink that has only in the last few years begun to return to Nordic palates.
With backgrounds as home brewers and beer enthusiasts at various levels, we at Mjøderiet have ambitions to revitalize mead in Norway. We believe Norwegians are ready to take part in the international development where mead has made a comeback in several countries. We think mead is insanely exciting and is a drink with great potential.
Mjøderiet wants to spread knowledge about mead, revive the classic styles and experiment with new and exciting flavors. We want to have a foot in the old mead tradition and one in the new craft brewery culture, where we experiment with fruits and spices, different alcoholic strengths and different levels of carbonic acid.
The meeting room will have diversity.
We want quality, and genuine passion for precious drops.
For painstakingly collected honey from diligent bees. For real fruits and berries, for flavorful herbs and spices. And of course for exciting and unique flavor combinations.
We want to meet the people.

Bottle, at Patrick's. It's a clear orange-pink mead, still and headless. Honey, orange, flowers, raspberry, some lemon and a light herbal touch in the aroma. Rather flowery flavor with a honey backdrop. Lemon, herbs and raspberry mixing in. Full body, smooth in a way, but with a dryish herbal note that feels a bit weird. Ling fruity finish. Easy drinkable this one, tasteful too, but not my favorite mix of flavors. 190807

On tap at Haandverksølfestivalen. A clear, yellow, oily mead with a honey driven aroma supported by some herbal and spiced notes, hints of cellar and a weird or at least unusual sweet and sour fruityness. There's surprisingly little alcohol going on, both in the aroma and the flavor. Honey, herbs, citrus and a distinct caramel touch in the flavor. Some citric sourness too. It's full-bodied, warming and sweet, yet not sticky, on the palate, with a lasting sweet and warming finish. Interesting this one, nothing more. 190608

Bottle, at Haandgemeng. It pours a clear pale golden body with no head. Honey-driven aroma with a faint apricot/peach touch. It's sweet on the palate, full-bodied and smooth, with a nice warmth, with honey the most evident flavor, supported by the same apricot/peach thing found in the aroma. More on the fruity side than the aroma though. Lasting finish. Sort of a peaches and cream experience, but I wouldn't have guessed apricots. And the cinnamon is so subdued I didn't notice until the meadmaker pointed it out. Sure it's a good mead, but it didn't seduce me. Had it again 190711 and came to more or less the same conclusion. 171027

On tap at Haandgemeng. It pours a pale golden body and no head to speak of. Clear. The aroma has a foundation of honey with funky, barnyard touch, some alcohol and a herbal scent. Forest and heather too, but less in the aroma than in the flavor. It's oily, warming and full-bodied, with a honey-sweetness in the flavor. Funky, forest-ish and herbal, with a good dash of heather. Dry in the finish. Wasn't expecting the funky touch in this one, but it works very well. 171027

Basis er som en søt hvitvin, men det funker fordi pors og einer brekker opp den sødmen som ellers ville kunne vært ødeleggende sterk. Liker!

Bottle. Courtesy of clubgonzo. It pours a still dark blue-ish red body. Quite oily. The aroma has copious amounts of blueberry, with the cardamom blending in fantastically. Vanilla in the background, adding to the already present sweetness. Hints of honey in the back. There's some alcohol too, but who would've thought it was at 14%. It's full-bodied, very lightly warming and smooth on the palate, with an oily feeling. Blueberry and cardamom in a heavenly match in the flavor, with honey, vanilla, freshly baked raisin buns and some alcohol too. Some alcohol burn in the finish, which by the way lasts forever. A wonderful mead indeed. Really, really delicious. 190719

On tap at Sørlandets Ølfestival. A mostly clear golden colored mead with a small offwhite head. Pleasant aroma of apples and orchard, with honey as a backdrop. It's full bodied, soft and nicely carbonated, with a pleasant sweetness and a light sour touch. Apple, honey, grass notes and some flowery hints. Long finish. Nice and dangerously easy drinkable. 190713
