Description
In the beginning, in 2004, the Lupulus brewery was built to brew beers for the tavern next door. In 2007, the brewery decided to create a new beer, in kegs and in Champagne bottles.
The brewers wanted to offer a traditional beer with its own unique flavour, using modern equipment. The region where the brewery is based gave the brewers the inspiration they were looking for.
The brewery is housed in a magnificent old 19th century farm, a part of Ardennes heritage. The installation is based in the middle of surrounding green fields, beside a freshwater stream.
The historical record is sketchy, but we know that wolves populated the Ardennes landscape in olden times. Some say that these wolf-packs came from Slovenia, where the best hops in the world are cultivated...
True story? In any case, the wolf was behind the creation of a new beer: Lupulus. The name derives from the Latin name of the hop plant Humulus Lupulus, which means Small Humble Wolf.

330 ml bottle. Pours amber with lots of floaters and full head. Aromas of herbal hops, a bit of sulphur and fruit, plus doughy malts. Flavors of dried fruit a bit of Belgian yeast and bready malts. Hard to determine what this is.

330 ml bottle. Pours a very dark brown with full head. Aromas of raisin bread, nutmeg, creamy coffee, a bit of Belgian yeast, and toasted malts. Flavors follow same with emphasis on bready malts and more, but not distracting Christmas spice. A tasty easy drinking Xmas beer. Very good.

(Draught at Beerlovers Bar, Antwerpen, 19 Oct 2023) Golden colour, slightly hazy, with frothy white head. Fruity, hoppy nose with citrus, tropical fruit, orange and pineapple. Fruity, hoppy taste with notes of citrus, pineapple, tropical fruit, grass, white bread and a mild citric/tropical bitterness. More than medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Fresh and juicy. Very nice.

Pours slightly unclear blonde. Medium large white head. Scent is mildly herbal, floral, tad fruity, hopped. Malty. Nice and full, whilst not to exhausting or heavy. Taste is full, intensely bitter, rye, grainy, medium body and medium high carbo. Fairly short finish.

Bottle from Drinks Vanuxeem, Ploegsteert, Belgium. Pours a hazy light golden colour with a large fluffy white head. Aromas of citrus and stoney fruits and also some nutty hints. Taste is again citrusy with yellow fruits also coming through and a lemon pithy hop bitterness on the finish. Thin to medium body with a lively carbonated mouthfeel. Nice refreshing summery drink.
