Description
Grolsch was first brewed in Groenlo in 1615 by Willem Neerfeldt. Peter Cuyper, son-in-law of Neerfeldt, was appointed master of the Grolsche brewing guild in 1676. Cuyper died in 1684, after which his descendants continued the business. Until 1876, the beer was brewed in the center of Groenlo. In that year brewery 'De Klok' built a new brewery outside the city. In 1895 it was bought by Theo de Groen, a descendant of a Zevenaar brewing family.

The De Groen family has upgraded the company from 1968 from a local brewery to an international company. Until 2004, Grolsch was brewed in Groenlo and Enschede. Since 2004, both locations have been closed and there is a new brewing factory in Boekelo-Usselo.

On 19 November 2007 the board of Royal Grolsch NV accepted a €816 million offer for the company by SABMiller. The takeover was completed with the delisting of Grolsch's shares on 20 March 2008. SABMiller subsequently sold the company to Anheuser-Busch InBev and in April 2016, the latter accepted Asahi Group Holdings Ltd.’s offer to buy not only Grolsch but also the Peroni and Meantime beer brands.

Woo hoo! The bums in front of the pizza joint at Bloor & Spadina have a new favourite, just in time of the holidays. Actually, compared with their other favourites, Faxe 10% and Crest Super, this stuff is relatively drinkable. It looks respectable enough with its orangey-amber colour. And the hint of caramel on the nose and palate tells you that this is no ordinary ghetto juice. This is the premium stuff they drink when the pogey cheque comes in!

The beer smells pretty good with excellent hops in it, but there is not much taste or palate present in this beer.

Real bitter, soury taste. The palate is just crap, i agree with the rotten notes.

What i remember from this beer, is that it was a nice darker beer, in the 'proeftijd' series. It was specially brewed by the brewer, to his personal taste. And it was good!

Clear dark yellow color. Quickly dissappearing head. Aroma of faint hops, some malts and alcohol. Taste is not that bad actually, not too much alcohol taste, very sweet. Alcoholic palate. Way below average beer.

Interesting - I thought I got some corn syrup flavours, weeicemon also picked up adjunct notes, yet this beer claims to be all-malt. It otherwise is an inoffensive, full gold lager.

I was a big Grolsch fan in university. Sure, the bottles had something to do with it - it’s the big reason for this beer’s success overseas. It isn’t a bad beer, however. From the deep golden colour to the grassy hop aroma with hints of bready malt to the moderate bitterness and body to the mild grassy hop and light malt palate, it’s a clean and well-made brew.

Do Europe and North America get the same version of this? It was a tasty altbier in Finland, and a bland red ale in Canada. Very curious...

As a guy whose hair turns a nice blond during the summer, I take great offense to a beer this bad using that name.
