Medium golden with a large, yet quickly receeding white head. Stinky overly sweetened grassy aroma, yuck. Flavor is grassy and artifically sweet, and it’s very funky-tangy in the mouth. Yick, not worth drinking.

Dark brown, almost black, with a small brown head. Smells like rotten bananas, seet malts, and not much else. Flavor is heavily sweet coffee, dark chocolate, and finishes with a tangy maltiness. Aftertaste is not all that desirable, but it’s not a bad brew.

Deeep golden in color with a small head. Smells like a combo of bread and wet newspaper. Taste, oh God the taste: funky! Has a nail-polish-remover-like flavor, with a slight sweetness (maybe it’s the nailpolish the remover took off). Yuck.

Pretty orangeish-brown color with no head. Smell is completely full of malts. Flavor is dominated by maltiness with hints of floral fruitiness- kinda plain, but has an interesting, original flavor.

Dark in color... NO head. Smells sweet, kinda raiseny. Tastes include licorice and deep strong alcoholish malts; actually very nice until... a lingering flavor of plastic, which I just cannot get over.

Dark brown coloured body, almost opaque with a decently dense lighter brown head. Aroma of nuts, roasted malt, caramel and a slight coffee twang. Medium-bodied; Bitter flavour of coffee, nuts & malt up front fading to sweetness after a few seconds. Aftertaste shows some roasted malt and bitterness however. Overall, not as long-lived as I would have liked-but a good attempt at a harder style to make! I sampled this pint on draugt at Dr. Dremo’s in Clarendon/Court House (Arlington), Virginia on 05-August-2004.

Cask at the 2004 Dominion Beer Festival:
Super hazy golden coloured body with a strong dense white head. Aroma of unfinished wort. Light-bodied; Strong hops in the taste with a complete unfinished taste-a bit off! Overall, not good but nice to try anyways. I sampled this on ’pseudo-draught’ at the Old Dominion Brew Festival 2004 on 27-June-2004 in Ashburn, Virginia. Rating for this sample: 6,4,6,2,11
Draught at Dr. Dremo:
Clear dark golden coloured body with orange highlights and a thinnish off-white head. Aroma of light hops-not too strong with some malt as well. Medium-bodied; Decently strong hop flavour-not bitter at all, but very clean & refined. Aftertaste shows little else-perhaps it was a bit old? Overall, a decent IPA-needs some work, but i’m somewhat impressed with this local! I sampled this pint on draught at Dr. Dremo’s in Clarendon (Arlington), Virginia on 05-August-2004. Rating for this sample: 6,3,6,2,12

Appearance is medium brown- not quite that of a brown ale, but seems darker than most pale ales. There’s a medium hoppiness in the nose, and the flavor is quite hoppy and slightly citrusy. Feels nice in the mouth. ADDITION: SAMPLED THIS AGAIN THIS EVENING under the name "Alexandria Ale." I’m beginning to think that there are two quite different beers, because the cottle I sampled this evening was awful... a LOT of melted plasticlike flavor and aroma. I had to pour it out.

Dark copper coloured body-darker than non-oak with a much nicer tan head that leaves a great lace. Aroma of oak, vanilla, mushrooms, earth, brown sugar, cardboard and malt. Heavy-bodied; Super sweet flavour with a large mustiness and subtle earthy flavours. Much different in taste than the normal version of this beer. Aftertaste super clean, but some mustiness and sugar left behind. Overall, a bit better than the normal version-even without the age (~1 year difference). I sampled this twelve ounce beer purchased from Shenandoah Brewing Company in Alexandria, Virginia on 24-December-2003.

Copper colour with slight ruby highlights and no head at all-even during the pour. Aroma of raisins, plums, alcohol, yeast and cherries. Heavy-bodied; Super sweet pit fruit characteristics with a malt background-very nice! Aftertaste has some slight mustiness with strong sweetness. Overall, a very nice barley wine-hardly any alcoholic tastes-1.5+ years aged, and its doing very well. This is definately more of a barleywine than a traditional, just look at the description! I tasted this horizontally with the Oak-Aged bottle! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle on 24-December-2003 purchased from Chevy Chase Wine & Spirits in Washington, D.C. and sampled it on 24-December-2003.
