Description
For years we brewed beers in our basement when we read an article in October 2010 about the Brouwland beer competition. We decided to risk our chances and sent our version of a Trappist beer, a dark beer, full malt, of 10%.In March 2011 we were informed that we were selected for the final. Beginning in April 2011 was ultimately the final. The seven finalist beers were tasted by beer connoisseurs, Zythologists Rijckers Anne and Yannick De Cocteau and some Belgian brew masters like Paul Arnott (Dubuisson), and Jean-Marie De Rock (Orval). The first beers were tasted and judged one for one, much was noted. Mutually there was not much talk together ,until they started our beer (the final seven beers were tasted in order of alcohol). All jurors began to talk to each other and two of them even gave us a thumbs up. Then, we knew it was good. After fifteen minutes of deliberations they announced the winner … Vliegend Paard Brouwers from Oedelem with their Préaris Quadrupel.

Draft sample @ Brugs Bier Festival 2013 as “No Hops No Glory” aka Préaris Blond given the Randal treatment with unnamed (possibly American) fresh hops. Pours hazy golden with a creamy white head. Lots of creamy citrus USA hops, quite heavy, touch fruity & light creamy grains. Taste is lots of citrus, creamy ,light milky grains, bitter floral with some light fruity & white sugar sweetness underneath it. I have been told that if you would just run water through the same installation you would get the same flavours which seems about right. This is still a nice & refreshing hop tea of sort. Body is obviously hazy, touch lower carb.

Bottle thx to benzai. Hazy deep red to brown with a full sized, lacing beige head. Smells wood, a bit like a barley wine, sweet, dark chocolate. I think my nose is failing me, but whatever. Tastes hops, oak, quite nice. Dark chocolate in the aftertaste. Full body, medium carbo.

Bottle from Beer Planet, Brussels
Dark brown color with generous creamy head. Some aroma of alcohol, malt, yeast; sweet; some fruit and cellar mold; peculiar but I dig it. Good flavor of dark malts, rich, some chocolate, mild spicy presence, medium sweetness, and some corky character. Light impression of Porto wine; alcohol warmth.
A bit out of the ordinary but very good.

Dark brown colour, beige head. Quite light aroma, caramel, liquorice, candy sugar, light sour notes. Bittersweet flavour, roasted malts. Bit thin body for a quadrupel. Sweet finish with roasted bitter notes.
Quite enjoyable, though feeling somewhat light for a quadrupel. Still, another decent brew by De Proefbrouwerij.
