Description
For years we brewed beers in our basement when we read an article in October 2010 about the Brouwland beer competition. We decided to risk our chances and sent our version of a Trappist beer, a dark beer, full malt, of 10%.In March 2011 we were informed that we were selected for the final. Beginning in April 2011 was ultimately the final. The seven finalist beers were tasted by beer connoisseurs, Zythologists Rijckers Anne and Yannick De Cocteau and some Belgian brew masters like Paul Arnott (Dubuisson), and Jean-Marie De Rock (Orval). The first beers were tasted and judged one for one, much was noted. Mutually there was not much talk together ,until they started our beer (the final seven beers were tasted in order of alcohol). All jurors began to talk to each other and two of them even gave us a thumbs up. Then, we knew it was good. After fifteen minutes of deliberations they announced the winner … Vliegend Paard Brouwers from Oedelem with their Préaris Quadrupel.

18 December 2024. Christmas Beer Evening with the lovely Anke! Bottle from Geers.

A: hazy brown, thin, tan head.
A: tobacco, smoked ham, brown bread, raisin.
T: sweetish apple & fig, herbal tobacco, tea leaves, toast.
F: herbal & earthy hops, smoky tobacco.
P: medium body, slick texture, average carbonation.
Not a full-fledged Smoked nor Porter; a bit more intensity in any of those profiles could have refined it.

375 ml bottle. Pours a dark brown with no head. Aromas of caramel, raisins, oak, mineral water and toasted malts. Flavors follow same with additional subtle cognac. Solid stuff and a good Quad.

Interesting quad, powerful with an interesting side of coffee, giving a side of dryness and mineral with the side of a Belgian quad. 16.04.2019, sharing this it with Raoul and meeting Raph and David since a really long time.

Dark mahogany pour, medium beige head. Aroma is alot of dark fruit, some bitter coffee beans, with some dry cereals. Mouth feel is crisp, and clear, and the carb is spot on. The finish is dry, and malty, with more fruity esters with some light coffee. I wouldn’t have guessed the two would go well together, but who knew.... Quad and coffee. Tasty!

Slightly hazy golden colour with a white head. Aroma of citrus fruits, yeast, spices, some hops. Flavour is lemony citrus with a nice hoppy bitterness in the aftertaste. Still, a bit thin and one-sided. Decent refreshing brew.
