About
For years we brewed beers in our basement when we read an article in October 2010 about the Brouwland beer competition. We decided to risk our chances and sent our version of a Trappist beer, a dark beer, full malt, of 10%.In March 2011 we were informed that we were selected for the final. Beginning in April 2011 was ultimately the final. The seven finalist beers were tasted by beer connoisseurs, Zythologists Rijckers Anne and Yannick De Cocteau and some Belgian brew masters like Paul Arnott (Dubuisson), and Jean-Marie De Rock (Orval). The first beers were tasted and judged one for one, much was noted. Mutually there was not much talk together ,until they started our beer (the final seven beers were tasted in order of alcohol). All jurors began to talk to each other and two of them even gave us a thumbs up. Then, we knew it was good. After fifteen minutes of deliberations they announced the winner … Vliegend Paard Brouwers from Oedelem with their Préaris Quadrupel.

26th Nov 2016: sat opposite Joris in ’t Brugs Beertje and noticed he was drinking a bottle of this, he told me it was a new brew, so I had a 33cl bottle of it too. I liked it more than he did. Slight haze to my amber pour, huge white head. Hops lead the way here with a healthy dose of herbal/spicy notes with a peppery overtone. The 7.8% ABV was well hidden, Daisy said she had a hand in what the brew would turn out like and she was wanting an IPA, not too sure she got what she wanted!

Bottle, 2015 vintage (from pothouse). Pourse dark brown. Aroma is sweet, malty, cognac, sugar, dark fruits. Flavor is sweet and bitter, dark fruits, raisins, sugar, malt, wood, some orange and grapefruit. Finish is sweet and cognac-dry bitter. Has some booze kick, but it fits with the beer. Overall: very good, sweet and boozy in a way I like.

330ml bottle @ Chez Sophie. Pours a misty gold, modest small head. Aroma has light smoke. Taste has subtle lapsang with soft herbal spice and light floral sweetness. Very pleasant and I like how the lapsang isn’t too dominant.
