Description
At Luppolo our beer is equally as important as the atmosphere we create in our lounge. Enjoy our selection of craft beers and delicious food in a warm and welcoming environment, your home away from home located in the “Yeast Van” Brewery District in Vancouver, BC.

Luppolo (pronounced loop-o-lo) means hops in Italian. We chose an Italian name due to the Italian heritage of two of our owners and because the values associated with Italian culture–quality, craftsmanship, community and family–are central to our vision.

473ml can. Pours a clear yellow gold with a medium, foamy, long lasting, white head that leaves thick curtains of lace. Aroma of grainy pale malt, lemon zest, green grape and grassy hops. Sweet flavour of biscuity pale malt, lemon zest, green grape, honey, black pepper, floral and grassy hops in a crisp, dry, bitter finish. Light body with a watery texture and average carbonation. Not really a Pilsner guy, but this was really good. Nice and hoppy.

Poured from the tap @ Luppolo. Clear yellow gold with small white head. Pils malt, tangy NZ hops with some classic grassy hops. Decent NZ pils.

Poured from the tap @ Luppolo (side by side with Darkness Ablaze). Clear-ish amber brown with small beige head. The whiskey overlay gives it some nice vanilla character, but mutes the original Darkness Ablaze character. Actually prefer the original, non-whiskey version.

Poured from the tap @ Luppolo. Clear amber brown with small beige head. Nice soft caramel malt with very feint hops and a nice oak underlay. Smoke barely comes through, but the base beer is so good that it is just a solid beer.

Poured from side pull (šnyt pour) @ Luppolo. Mostly clear blonde with full white head. Clean and crisp pils malt with gentle smoke. Quite nice.

On tap at Luppolo, pours a dark amber brown with a small beige head. Aroma has plenty of dark dried fruits, toasted caramel, gentle smoke, and subtle whiskey barrels quell in good cohesion. Flavour is more subdued on the smoke than the base beer, replaced with the whiskey barrels, and supported by a relatively dry caramel malt base, along with dark dried fruits. Very skillfully done.

On tap at Luppolo, pours a cloudy yellow with a small white head. Aroma is full of diacetyl and chalkiness — wow, hitting the sweet spot here. Flavour is egregious, with loads of diacetyl, moderate chalkiness, and some stone fruit. The butter kills this even more than the chalk does. Terrible.

On tap at Luppolo, pours a clear pale blonde with a small white head. Aroma has subtle smoke, with gentle biscuity malt and straw in the background. Flavour has a nice gentle smokiness that rests on top of the corn, with a mostly dry, clean finish. Smoking this Mexican lager definitely elevates this but it’s still not particularly interesting.

6oz pour at Luppolo. Pours clear blonde with a white head. Light smoke and vegetal notes on the nose. Smoke is even lighter in the flavour, some soggy malts, and overboiled vegetables. The smoking is a nice touch, but the base lager needs work.

6oz pour at the brewery. Pours murky brown with a light beige head. Whiskey and smoked malts on the nose. Flavour has great earthy, smoky base complemented very well by the whiskey barrels. The smokiness of the base beer is more subdued than it was in the original, but the synergy of the base and barrels is excellent.
