Poured from 650mL bottle. Dark brown with small beige head. Maple forward (without being overpowering), mild coffee and a very very feint smokey saltiness. At 6.4%, this is very flavourful. Not too heavy, not too cloying, good balance, great stuff.

Interesting beer, definitely a light bodied IPA. Pours a straw color, modest quick head. Decent hint of gold, but this is lighter than many macro lagers! Nose is interesting, fairly dank, and a touch of pine resin, maybe a sweat sock note. Flavor is shocking at first, but after having had the whole 6 pack I got used to it. The shocking part is just how thin and light bodied the palate is, but still has the big hop flavoring of a regular IPA. Moderate bitterness. Fully dry, virtually no malt flavors to speak of, it is pretty close to some of the hop waters I've had. Maybe when I think more of those hop waters, and I contrast them with this, I can detect just a subtle malt presence that is not in the hop waters. But this comes as close as a beer can get. And again it's not really bad, just a real unexpected thing.

12 ounce bottle. Rating number 5,900! Opaque brown color. Creamy tan head. Big roasted malt aroma has notes of maple and bacon. Sweet roasted malt flavor upfront. Nutty, maple syrup notes. Bacony, smoky mid taste. Sticky mouthfeel. Hints of cocoa and coffee in finish. Interesting.

Very dark brown coloured body with a thick, three centimetre tall rich brown head that stays afloat nicely on top of a 80 per cent opaque brown body. Aroma of super pungent fresh real maple syrup, a lot of coffee notes and some small pork brine (bacon?) notes and a good deal of roasted malts of course, as well. Medium-bodied; Rich coffee and grainy notes shows at first with a lot of coffee notes and a touch of chocolate with some subdued smoked pork notes that show a bit of an artificial bite with a light sweetness at the end and a molasses and burnt sugar finish. Aftertaste is rich and complex from the flavours, but the malts don’t add too much of a completeness, with a thinnish feeling, especially at the end, that don’t seem to support all the flavours here. Overall, a decent enough beer with some big coffee and maple flavours, but the pork/bacon and malt aspects make this a bit underwhelming. Decent, but not worth spending a premium on this one, like I did. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle, purchased from ABC Fine Wine & Spirits in Bonita Springs, Florida on 02-May-2022 US$6,36, sampled a day later at my hotel room here in Bonita Springs, Florida on 03-May-2022.

Not bad, esp given my tiring of big impies. I found this surprisingly drinkable, I even had 2 of them - that's a big deal. I always said that when Funky Buddha stays in the lane of standard beer styles, and avoids the kitchen sink and strange ingredients, they can make a fine beer, and this proves it. The coffee dominates the nose, and also the flavor, though some chocolate and roasted malt make an appearance there too. I'm not really sure I can taste much in the way of the bourbon barrel. Semi-sweet overall profile makes this drinkable for its size. Quite dark pour, smallish head, full body.
