Pitch black, dirty tan frothy head, good lacing
Aroma of rich dark malts, mellow roast, savoury, yeasty, bit meaty
Taste of rich deep dark malts, mellow roast, dark fruits, rich dark chocolate, figs, really rich malts, not demanding
Palate - soft carb, full body, very smooth, rich dense texture, fairly sweet. Finish as main flavour, dark dense fruity malts, soft alcohol
Overall - Very well made impy, smooth, superb palate. I think I prefer this to the Special Reserve which I find a bit over oaky (but considerably more complex) , but will be doing another rate of that to decide whether its better or not

500ml bottle conditioned (4.5% ABV): BBE 11-2015. Picked up from the brewery and brought home to drink. Poured into an Abbot Ale glass tankard on 10th Jan 15, the last beer in a personal ’random beer tasting’ with myself. Black bodied with a rich, deep, foaming tanned head. Roasted malt nose and taste, chocolate front with coffee close behind in the flavour stakes, a mild yeastiness just below the semi-sweet surface. Very mild bitterness finishes each sip after the milk chocolate flavours slowly die away: nice.

Bought at the brewery: 330ml bottle conditioned, Lot 774, BBE 04.2016. Poured into a La Chouffe stemmed tulip at home 10th Jan 15 during a ’random beer tasting afternoon’ with myself. Lovely pour, amber and clear, the head a proud billowing soft pillow of white foam. Plenty of carbonation bubble trails rising through the body. Fruity and malty aroma, the taste follows in the same vain. Biscuity maltiness and red fruits vie for pole position in the mouth with a good mini-bite to the flavours. This is a fine, well made beer, the alcohol content does show it’s strenght, but the flavours and body depth carry it well. A delight to drink.

Half-pint, gravity pour out of a small plastic ’polypin’ at the brewery on 3rd Jan 2015: a free drink as I perused the shop/office shelves for the bottles I wanted to take away (12 actually). Ruby brown in colour, clear and clean: off white head with some lacing on the stemmed glass it was offered on arrival. The aroma was of caramel type malty molasses and some red berry/hedgerow fruitiness. The taste was also malty sweet and fruity with red berry to the fore. Very pleasant after a four hour drive and a beer I would happily drink again, and again.

Bottle shared at Craig’s. Pours clear yellow with a foamy white head. The nose has some bready pale malts, ripe citrus. Light-medium sweet flavor with notes of citrus, peach, apple, hay. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Decent balance on the finish, some ripening citrus, straw, dry pale bread. Not bad.

Bottle shared at Craig’s. Mild gusher. Pours clear garnet with a creamy tan head. The nose holds lightly tangy, ripe fruits, musty leaves. Medium sweet flavor with hints of caramel, dried berries, grainy bread. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Moderate sweetness to finish with some earthy bitterness, leathery fruits, berries. Decent.
