Description
Crafting mixed culture ale in the beautiful Pacific Northwest
Founded by partners in life and work, Charles Porter and Brenda Crow, Little Beast is a family brewery with a passion for making great beer and sharing it with others.
We craft wild, wood-aged and blended beer naturally with diverse cultures, including Saccharomyces, Brettanomyces, Lactobacillus, and wild flora. By harnessing the little beasts that ferment our beer, we capture their untamed beauty and produce farmhouse beers that are diverse in flavor and rare in character.
Admin Note: Beer Garden/Tap Room in Portland, production in Clakamas, OR.

16 ounce can. Pours a hazy orange hue with a large white head. A big fruity nose, lemon, dusty. Big flavors of blueberries, fresh lemon blueberry cobbler, husky grains. Interesting.

Bottle. Gusher. Golden beer with a big cream head. Tart and bretty aroma with light lemon. Summer fruit and yeast flavor with bretty tartness and funkiness. Medium bodied. Summer fruit and yeast linger with brett.

On tap at Little Beast, pours black with a small light brown head. Aroma is intense, with lots of boozy cognac upfront, with roasted malt in the background. Flavour is brutal, with a ridiculous amount of cognac barrels, light roast, and some tart dark fruits. Loads of cognac — it's a little too brutal, but certainly fun extreme beer.

On tap at Little Beast, pours black with a small beige head. Aroma reveals gentle smoke, light spiciness, and a touch of honey. Flavour is rich and complex, with a beautiful mix of honey, smoke and gentle chili spices. Wonderful mix of adjuncts, creating a really elegant profile. Excellent.

On tap at Little Beast, pours a clear pale golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out lots of oily pine and resinous hops, and just enough biscuity malt to back. Flavour is full of herbal and earthy piney hop oils, fungal notes, and biscuity malt. Oily and herbal in the hop department. It's alright.

On tap at Little Beast, pours a clear golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out piney hops, earthy notes, and crisp biscuity malt. Flavour is crisp and piney in the hop department, with grass, dankness, and crisp biscuity malt. Piney and dank on the finish - very nicely west coast IPA.

375 c&c from Cap Tap. Pours a mild, persistent gusher of foamy whiteness over hazy orange/gold. Aroma of mildly tart pale prunus fruits - peaches are in it. Med body at least. Flavor is tart peach and mildly musty wood. Apricot notes. Lightly acidic. Makes me think of Brett, but I don't think Brett is in it. Dry. Tart. Fruity. Quite nicely done.

375 c&c from the Pangaea Bottle Shop. Pours translucent medium brown with a decent beige head. Aroma of slightly musty wood, red berries, mildly roasty malt and tart/sour. Med body or so. Flavor more or less matches the aroma. I think it meets the style, but the profile is rather different from common Belgian imports. I can deal with this. I'd rather have low level tart/sour than mouth rending tart sour. For me it's easy to drink.

Can from Cap Tap. Pours clear dark brown with a creamy beige head. Aroma has a nutty/spicy aspect, with malt similar to Tmavy beers. Med body. I'm thinking Kviek yeast is a flavor contributor; otherwise malt is Tmavy like. Spicy/yeasty/malty in a pleasing way. Some fruity esters I can't pin down. There is a little earthiness; little. It has excellent flavor.
