Description

Saint-Monon beer was born in 1996 in the heart of the Famenne, land of brigandage and legends located at the gateway to the Belgian Ardennes. This beverage straight out of the imagination of the youngest Walloon brewer in, Pierre Jacob, quickly acquired its letters of nobility.

Pierre Jacob is an industrial engineer in the food industry. Nature, he works with and he respects it. His farm is 100% self-sufficient in electricity, the filtration residues from his beers are converted into food for the village animals, organic waste is composted, he works with recycled paper and cardboard boxes.

Bottle from Drinks Vanuxeem, Ploegsteert, Belgium. Pours a dark mahogany colour with a thin to medium sized soapy looking off white head. Aromas of dark fruits, caramel, fudge and a little chocolate. Taste has more dark fruits particularly plums, berries, chocolate, some peppery spice and a hint of candy and burnt sugar. Lovely balance and is not overly sweet. Spicy fruity finish. Thinnish body and average carbonation. This is a good one. Well above average Dubbel. Will definitely seek this beer out again. Excellent.

Bottle from Drinks Vanuxeem, Ploegsteert, Belgium. Label ‘Triple au Miel’. Pours a hazy amber colour with a thin soapy looking off white head. Aromas of yellow fruits with a hint of sweet candy, honey and spice. Taste is quite sweet and syrupy with a little more fruity notes, some warming alcohol, more honey and peppery spice. Sweet cloying alcoholic finish. Medium body, average carbonation and sticky oily mouthfeel. I’m not really feeling this one. Too cloyingly sweet and alcoholic. Below average Tripel.

Bottle from Drinks Vanuxeem, Ploegsteert, Belgium. Pours a hazy amber/brown colour with a medium to large sized thick throthy off-white head. Some sediment in the glass. Aromas of caramel, toffee, fruit cake, nuts and citrus orange. Taste is malty with more caramel, fruit cake and oranges, overripe fruit flavours and a bit toasty. Alcohol extremely well hidden. Thinnish body, gentle carbonation and smooth slightly oily mouthfeel. Pleasant and inoffensive. Not bad.
