Draft. Ginger Man, NYC. Clear, brown body with ruby highlights. Light tan, frothy head, mostly diminishing. Aroma of toasted malt with hints of roast. Notes of cocoa, vanilla, resin, caramel, woody cedar, earthiness and a hint of funky yeast. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet, moderately bitter and lightly to moderately acidic. Raspy resin/pine/tobacco taste lasts, slowly erasing the sweet malt flavors, welcome in a brown ale. Medium body, watery/velvety texture and lively carbonation. Lots going on in this beer for a brown ale. Nicely done.

I’ve been sitting on this one for a few months, but I figured an IPA ain’t gonna be getting any better - pours a lightly hazy copper, with an impressive, fluffy, lasting head - sticky lace - semi-sweet aroma of citrus and tropical fruits, herbal, dank hops, barely noticeable cedar - the flavor is fairly sweet at first, with strong papaya and mango character - then the bitterness sets in - tasty, but bordering on astringent at times - the cedar is present, but subtle at first, just kind of hanging out, doing nothing, neither adding to nor subtracting from the character of the beer - however, things get kind of dry and woody in the finish - too much so - it tastes like I’m chewing on a hunk of cedar - it doesn’t help that this is the exact point where the hops tend to get a little astringent, either - mild returning sweetness on the very tail end, with lingering mango and guava - there are certain aspects that are overdone/out of balance, but it’s not terrible.

1L growler thanks to mar, via a trade with Daknole. Pours with a deep black body and a quick to fade deep brown head. Inks the glass. Aroma of brown sugar, chocolate, currants, light scotch, vanilla, nuts and caramel. Taste is a bit bitter with dark chocolate, hops, earth, caramel and milk chocolate. Syrupy mouthfeel. I wanted to love this, but don’t find it much more amazing than the regular Zhukov. Glad Dakine is moving closer.

Nice one. Starts with a bright floral hop nose and flavor, backed by smooth chocolately malts, leading to a fairly strong bitter (hop) finish. If anything maybe the IBUs were too high for my liking but on the whole it was a good beer. Medium brown color with a good foamy head.

Pours deep amber with thin tan head. The aroma is sweet malts, dark fruitiness, bourbon, oak and some boozy heat. The taste is complex with bourbon and oak heading into sweet malts, molasses and sweet nuttiness. Also running above these flavors are notes of bourbon alcohol heat and hops blending together. Toward the finish the barrel notes overtake the once full complexity of roasty malt notes of this blended beer. Upon further samplings the mix of nuttiness, roasty malts, bourbon and oak create an interesting sensation that becomes a bit too bourbony for me into the finish.

On tap at Brass Tap in Wesley Chapel, FL. Pours very dark with dark mocha bumpy lumpy lace clinging head. The aroma is full of dark roasted coffee, dark roasted malts, some burnt malts, chocolate, a touch of vanilla and chocolate malt balls. The taste begins silky smooth and with a bit dark chocolate velvety qualities bleeding into burnt malts and dark roasted coffee. Midway soft notes of oak, vanilla and a hint of sweet dark berries takes this to the finish as well as offering up lingering chocolate, coffee and burnt malt notes going days into the after taste.

Poured from a growler filled at Big Z beverage. Pours a translucent, ruddy, dark brown with a thin, wispy white head. Sweet, malty aroma, bready grains, caramel, earth, nuts, brown sugar. Flavor is nice; cereal, bread, toasted grains, nuts, brown sugar. The oatmeal provides a silky mouthfeel. The end of the flavor has this earthy, dried leaf, maduro cigar like flavor. Very interesting. Drinkable and enjoyable.
