Description

75 cl bottle (8%) @ Gastropub Tuulensuu. Batch 20111026: BBE 12/2014
Lots of foam right away after the cap was opened. Aroma has some cold coffee, mocha and licorice. Also hints of peat and spices. Flavour has some bitter, cold coffee, licorice, nettles and hints of chocolate. Somewhat ashy finish. Decent, does not feel like 8%.

75cl bottle @ ZZT IV. Big gusher! Murky brown color, an incredible amount of yeast in it, big chunks. Brown chunks in the foamy beige head. Smell some herbs and malts. Taste malts, herbs, dough. Disappointing. Too much carbo, medium body.

Bottle from Beer Planet, Brussels
Dark amber color, cloudy, with some red shade. There is some aroma of chocolate, but covered by a suspicious sourness. It would have a good malt flavor, with hints of chocolate and caramel, but spoiled by and evident, although not too strong, infection.
It should be a good beer if not infected.

Zythos Bierfestival 2012, Leuven, Belgium. It pours mahogany with dark tan head. The aroma has musty dates mixing with some coffee and faint chocolate notes. The taste has coffee notes mixing nicely with plums and figs. Behind those notes I get a bit of caramel before more coffee goodness takes this into the finish. Pretty nice stuff.

Zythos Bierfestival 2012, Leuven, Belgium. It pours clear copper with gold edges and nice tan head. The aroma offers up smoky and peat notes as well as sort of alderwood and some malts. The taste has plenty of smoky notes to go around along with some rubbery band aid too. Into the finish mild malts and sweet dark fruity esters are noticed well behind the smoke and band aid. Smells nice but it gets a tad rubbery.

13/V/2012 - 75cl bottle @ De Heeren van Liedekercke - BB: VI/2013 (2012-497)

Very little cloudy amber to dark red brown beer, nice light beige head, pretty stable, little adhesive. Some chunks floating around in glass and bottle. Aroma: little sourish, pretty smoky (although I was the only one who got some smoke), smells like an infection. A bit woody and some Rodenbach sourness. MF: good carbon, medium body. Taste: sourish start, grains, bit smoky, pretty bitter, some spices and bretta. Aftertaste: sourish, bit metallic, orange peel, wood, bretta touch, bitter tobacco and rotten fruits. Tastes like something has gone terribly wrong here.

Has a rusty, light brown colour. Smokey and slightly salty aroma. Texture is rather thin and watery. Lots of whiskey barrel type flavours, wood, smoke, tobacco. It’s not quite refined enough. Perhaps it will age well?

Draft @ ZBF 2012 // clear golden orange with no head // smell is heavy on a fruity peat mixed with a touch burned rubber, tires, smoked ham, all of these in a good way // taste is citrus, highland, enjoyable light touch of burned rubber & light peat, herbal, hint of grains, meaty smoke // medium bodied & fittingly well-carbonated // a lovely whiskey beer
