Keg at the brewpub. Clear golden, small head. Interesting spicy pear aroma. Mid sweet with medium body and clean, rounded mouthfeel. Pear and citrus, notes of sichuan pepper and butter. Low bitterness. Interesting stuff.

Beertopia 2014 #4. Slightly spiced aroma. Cinnamon? Not a bad stout - light, roasted. Not much else.

Buddy brought a growler back from China - this beer survived the trip. This one poured a slightly cloudy orange color with a pretty thick white head. Aroma was relatively non-existent, light malts, some hops. Flavor was a lot more robust. Plenty of citrus notes, oranges - some nice malt balance. This was a lot better than I ever expected it to be. Probably won’t have another chance to try this brew - was nice I had the opportunity.

Near black. Thin head. Rich aroma with intense sugars, wood, breadcrust. Balanced and rich aroma. On the palate, more rich sugars, molasses and wood character. Soft and smooth body. Great balance and depth. Dangerously drinkable, even more so than the regular imperial stout.

Hazy tan with a thick head. Nice, floral aroma from the tea, with abundant tropical fruits. Great nose. On the palate, this comes across more as overripe fruit, which is less appealing. Finishes a bit tannic. The overall effect isn’t great, but there is potential and I could see people really liking this.

Hazy and tan. Banana, yeasty with a light tea accent. Lots of tea character. Lightly tannic with some residual sweetness. Decent, but maybe not to my taste.

Quite muddy darkish amber - Hop God is always an ugly pint. The aroma has piney hops, light citrus, maybe even tomato. The hops are Chinese, and they have a unique character that hints at American but with Asio-Australio influences. Good balance. There is a slight creaminess to the body with light resiny stickiness and a little bit of alcoholic muscle to balance this out. A go-to beer at Great Leap.

Nice and black. Dark caramel head. Rich fudgey aroma with lots of chocolate....smells rich. Sweet, very rich on the palate with lots of chocolate. You’ve got dates, stewed prunes...lots of character. A meaty, chewy but yet silky example.

Cloudy tan colour. Definitely a bernsteinweizen. The aroma is light and accented towards banana. Soft body, light and with a touch of acidity. Flavours mix banana and wheat. Ok wheat beer, maybe a bit yeasty/unrefined.

Light brown and pretty cloudy - my biggest misgiving with this beer is that it does not look like a porter in the common understanding of the style. The visual appeal of blackness in a beer cannot be understated. The aroma is mostly toasty and breadcrusty. It is toasty and light chocolately on the palate as well. The beer has a fairly robust character, but is also sweet and smooth.
