Description
Since 1926, brewing has no longer been a matter of chance at Bénifontaine, but rather is an art which has been passed down from generation to generation. From microbrewery to family business, Castelain Brewery has had a loyal following thanks to its artisanal beers and its respect for tradition. Thoroughness, patience, authenticity: these have been the key words for Castelain bières de garde and seasonal beers since the creation of the brewery.

From 1993. This isn't awful but it's certainly long past its prime -- who knew that "beer for keeping" doesn't mean three decades?! 😉 Sherry oxidisation, sweet malts, a slight hop bitterness but not really. A tiny bit of fizz when opened but not in glass

440ml can. Pours a misty yellow, good white head. Aroma brings a gentle exotic breaze. Flavour profile follows suit, coming across NE-lite.. as in super lite.. but a lovely smooth gently sweet quaffer.

Sights & Swills Summer Holiday Beer#109. ST MALO. From June 2025. Mildly hazed, sweetened tropical fruit effort, in both aroma and taste. A tasty example. Last of the French beers drank in France.

Sights & Swills Summer Holiday Beer#66. PONTORSON. My sixty-sixth beer of the holiday, and just a digit short of being the number of The Beast! This beast is a strong but tasty hoppy blonde with a few sugars and pale malts. This came in only a 25cl bottle so was over before it had begun!!!

Sights & Swills Summer Holiday Beer#62. ST MALO. Found this one at Riff Magnetic, a late night music bar behind the indoor market building in the walled city. Golden with a head. Easy textured but not thin. It's a juicy enough tropical brew in both aroma and taste, although more juicy than tropical.

Sights & Swills Summer Holiday Beer#48. ST MALO. Evening drink within the walled city. Golden with a creamy head and lots of carbonation. Has sweetish pale malts and Belgian-style bubblegum. Its strength is not too impactful in taste, but obviously helps in giving it plenty of body.
