Description
The Obergärige Hausbrauerei Uerige (top-fermented craft brewery) is not a museum, but an exceedingly modern food business where a craft rich in centuries of tradition is carried out. It goes without saying that the Reinheitsgebot, or Purity Law dating from 1516, is still adhered to, because its results are good and lasting, relying, as it does, on nature as one of its main factors. Which is exactly what we do, too: our yummy droplet is made of nothing but water, barley, wheat malt, and our Uerige yeast.

Bottle. Hazy brown body with a thick, frothy beige head. Aroma of light roast, caramel, bready malts, nuts, grass, raisin. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter with the bitterness lingering. Thin to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Delicate balance, refined roasted malts. Great finesse.

Bottle from Asao. Cloudy orange-brown with a fall, frothy head. Light aroma of nuts, chocolate, caramel, Very bitter flavor, grassy hops, caramel, chocolate, light nuts and roast. An extreme alt, rich and tasty, with long-lasting bitterness, tannic even, like the inner skin of a chestnut. Medium body, light, a bit thin. Interesting and crazily bitter, but not as rich and full as at the brewery. Still unique and nice.

Refrigerated bottle poured into a shaker. Pours dark opaque brown with small off-white head. Thin small bubble lacing, thick chewy body, low carbonation, and dark fruit aroma. Taste is nuts, dark fruit, and a hint of alcohol. Pretty heavy, I like lighter alts.

Hazy pale yellow colour, white head. Fruity yeast aroma, wheat, malt, light hops, light peach and apricot. Light sweet, light sour flavour. Quite fruity, some fresh yeast tones. Fruity finish, citrus, wheat and fresh yeast.
Nice and fresh weizen, not heavy on the typical banana as the more typical examples.

11.2 oz swingtop bottle. Pours muddy brown with no head and a small beige ring of foam that fades after awhile--uuuggly. Aroma is over-the-top (for me) maltiness--lots of caramel here; also, some oxidation. Taste is overly malty sweet with a lingering bitter hop finish. Dark fruits mingle with caramel sweetness in flavor. Nothing wrong with the palate, but nothing blowing my mind, either. I bought this because it’s the highest rated altbier, but I don’t think these malty styles, and this style in particular, will ever be a favorite of mine.

330ml bottle. Minimally cloudy, red glowing, dark amber colour with small, frothy, reawakening, minimally lacing, beige head. Caramel malty aroma, bitter hoppy overtones, hints of alcohol. Taste is bitter hoppy with heavy malt basis, some caramel, hints of dark chocolate, later also minimally roasty, bitter hoppy finish. Resembles a well-hopped Barleywine.

Tap @ Uerige. Hazy light yellow appearance with a white head. Somewhat yeasty, pretty dull, light lemon aroma. A little tangy, lemon citrusy, mild yeasty, wheat flavor. Refreshing but uninspired and boring.
