Clear dark cherry body with a small creamy head. Sweet molasses aroma with a malty hint. Sweet light honey flavor on a dark misty background.

Dark brown. Nose was of carmel. Taste was carmel candy, grainy, touch of sour. Very refreshing, virtually no harsh bitter tones.

Hazy golden color with thin but firm white head. Sweet nose. Aroma is banana, spices and what yeast. Medium bodied and rather sweet.

Tall thin brown flip-top bottle obtained at the 2010 Pre-ZBF near Brugge. Poured into a Frankenheim Alt glass (twice) in March 2010. Lovely looking beer, redwood colour, clear on the first pour, clouded on the second, both pours had a well formed foaming head of tan coloured bubbles. Malts hit the nose, roasted, toasted, but not burnt. The malts carry on into the taste, rich and almost creamy, the 6% ABV is also evident within the flavour and adds that something extra some of the ’lesser Altbiers’ lack in body and depth. Very, very drinkable and pleased I’ve at last had one of these famous beers. I’ve drank at the brewhouse a few times, but many years ago and sadly never when the ’Stike’ was on.

March 2010: Tall thin brown flip-top bottle, poured twice into a Frankenheim Alt glass. First pour the beer was clear, second murky. Deep, dark reddy brown body with a lovelly velvet/silky feeling tan coloured head. The smell was of lighty burnt malts, with some harsh chocolate blocks added to take away the charcoal thoughts my nose began to get. The aroma sweetened as the beer warmed. The malts fill your mouth with bitterness from the burnt aspect mentioned in the smell. The alcohol then burns into the tongue and the chocolate turns into a more bitter mouthfeel than it hinted in the aromas. This adds to the impression of the beer being really bitter, which it is at first, but as your mouth dries a warming richness arrives bringing a sweeter aftertaste. I liked it a great deal and am very pleased to have at last tasted one of these beers.

500ml bottle. Clear amber, deep red glowing, with medium frothy off-white head. Nuttily malt and bitter hop aroma. Fresh, refreshing and pure bitter taste, not overdone, not too cautious. Excellent Altbier.

Bottle @ Uerige Carsch Haus Pub, Dusseldorf. Bottled March - Consumed Early April. Pours cloudy amber with a creamy white foam. Lovely hoppy nose and flavor. Grass, caramel and even a little pine. Slight yeasty touch. Smooth and full bodied. Ends dry and hoppy. Really nice. Pretty amazing that people fail to recognice the qualities within this beer.

Tap @ Uerige brewery. Poured hazy, straw color with a thin white head. Citrusy, light sour, fruity aroma. Flavor similar, citrus and wheat with some rhubarb kind of sourness to it. Refreshing and crisp.

A reddish amber alt with a thin big bubbled off white head. In aroma, smooth vinous malt with raisins, light soy, interesting. In mouth, a sweet maderized malt with light vinous notes, a bit thin and dead, some corky notes.
