Description
The Obergärige Hausbrauerei Uerige (top-fermented craft brewery) is not a museum, but an exceedingly modern food business where a craft rich in centuries of tradition is carried out. It goes without saying that the Reinheitsgebot, or Purity Law dating from 1516, is still adhered to, because its results are good and lasting, relying, as it does, on nature as one of its main factors. Which is exactly what we do, too: our yummy droplet is made of nothing but water, barley, wheat malt, and our Uerige yeast.

Location: 11.2 oz bottle from Buy Rite, 1/7/12

Aroma: The nose has some roast, bread, earth, caramel, and some other malts
Appearance: A dark brown-black pour with a light brown-beige head and spotty lace
Flavor: The taste is medium (plus) sweet, with a lot of malty flavors to it
Palate: The body is medium, with a touch on the sticky side, with a little bit of heat
Overall Impression: This was a pretty interesting offering. It has a pretty solid flavor, and a decent body, I enjoyed trying this one.

330mL bottle, side-by-side with Sticke, pours a murky deep dark brown with some orange tints (darker than Sticke), with a small ring of beige head. Aroma is more like a barley wine, with rich notes of dark dried fruits, loads of caramel, toasted bread, toasted nuts, and lager yeast. Flavour is much richer than Sticke, tasting more like a barley wine, with rich sweet notes of toffee and caramel though not cloying at all, dark dried fruits (raisins, dates), some pomegranate, bready malts, molasses and some brown sugar. Much richer, sweeter and complex than Sticke. Delicious and worthy of its reputation.

330mL bottle, side-by-side with Doppel Sticke, pours a very murky dark brownish orange with a small ring of off-white head. Aroma of caramel malts, wet bread, lager yeast, toasted nuts and some dark fruits. Flavour is quite nutty, woody and a bit herbally - wet bread, toasted nuts, some slight caramel notes, some dry fruit and some slight floral notes. Finishes dry, semi-bitter, bready and nutty - medium astringency lingers. Quite good, though I don't understand the hype on this one.

Bottle at Kernel with Nate & Toby. It pours dark amber/brown, with a thick beige head. The nose is nail varnish remover, sweet fruit, caramel and bubblegum. The taste is nail varnish remover, metal, dark fruit, cardboard, wood, caramel, roasted malt and bubblegum, with a long dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. So-so.
