Description
Põhjala Brewery is the brainchild of three friends and beer aficionados who, like many a future craft brewer, got tired of the tasteless watery lagers that the faceless megacorporations have saturated the beer market with.

We brew small batches of hand crafted ales, using the best malts, loads of mostly New World hops and a relentless passion for good beer. When creating our beers, we are inspired by Nordic nature, Estonian new cuisine and the work of our fellow microbrewers in the U.S., UK and Scandinavia who, in our opinion, are leading the craft beer revolution.

In hops we trust!

Reviewed from notes.
Bottle to snifter.
Appearance: dark brown close to black in the pour with a small khaki foamy head which slid off nicely but once it did barely any lace formed
Aroma: big sweet maple syrupy whiffs, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, sweet wafers, some sweet wood
Flavor: blends the prior noted aromas together to a fine sweet character; finishes maple-y and chocolatey
Texture: medium bodied, this one's a sipper, very smooth and semi-slick along the tongue, not cloying
Overall: a very well done impy stout I would very much love to have again.

33cl bottle from Sip, Tallinn. Pours very dark mahogany coloured with a fairly modest, tanned head. Roasty aroma with dark chocolate, dark fruits, ripe raspberries, wood and hints of alcohol and caramel. Sweet, smoot and flavourful with pleasant slightly acidic notes. Could easily have this one again.

On tap at Põhja Konn, Tallinn. Pours close to completely clear golden with a fairly modest, white head. Smells a bit like coconut, yes, somewhat fruity as well. Not really my cup of tea, somehow the mix and the flavours doesn't really work for me. Weird carbonation, sour and strange flavour mix. Not unpleasant, but not really refreshing either.

330ml, bottle.
Close to no head, I could only see one layer of bubbles forming, then they formed a little island in the middle, and rapidly popped and vanished into the shadow realm :( Seeing all the glass shots with thin head make me jealous..
Black color, low carbonation. Balanced flavor, I enjoyed it despite not being a huge fan of this style of beer.

Near opaque dark brown beer, a decent bubbly tan head but, it retreats to the rim at pace. Smooth and very slightly viscous palate, semi dry, decent fine carbonation developing on the back end. The dark malts are laden with bitterish dark chocolate and, a fair dose of coffee. Vanilla obvious in the mid but, struggling to keep the overall bitterness in check and unusually, not generating any milk choc by mating with the dark malts. Coconut milk is an afterthought and, really not bringing anything sweet. Rye whiskey dominates the back end, rich boozy ripe fruits and, a fair dollop of alcohol spice. Slightly viscous finish. Has muscle this one but, if you have tastes many whiskey barrel aged impies before, don't hold yer breath for anything new, just a good unsweet example of style.
