Description
Põhjala Brewery is the brainchild of three friends and beer aficionados who, like many a future craft brewer, got tired of the tasteless watery lagers that the faceless megacorporations have saturated the beer market with.

We brew small batches of hand crafted ales, using the best malts, loads of mostly New World hops and a relentless passion for good beer. When creating our beers, we are inspired by Nordic nature, Estonian new cuisine and the work of our fellow microbrewers in the U.S., UK and Scandinavia who, in our opinion, are leading the craft beer revolution.

In hops we trust!

Tip Tap draught, 2/6/26, as pictured.
Slightly roast with fudge and dark chocolate. No truffle apparent at the outset. Earth and dark fruit emerging with warming. Some sweet date, perhaps.
Both sweet and bitter at first which is odd. Slight smoke, soy, fudge and maybe a hint of dry alcohol. Still not getting much, if any truffle. Maybe just a bit of salt, really. Lots of peppery bitterness lingering to balance the moderately fudgey malts. The juxtaposition of sweet and bitter should work better than it does, but it's just a bit too overwhelming and disjointed. I'm glad the truffles are tastefully-[under]done.

Can from Systembolaget. Light hopped aroma. Dark brown. Nice mature flavour, balances deep caramel, with hint of coffee, and hops. Not my favourite type of beer, but weirdly one that gets better when you focus on it.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a dark brown foamy head with some retention and some lacing notes. Aroma of chocolate notes with some oak notes with faint vanilla notes. Taste is also a mix of chocolate notes with some dry oak notes and faint vanilla notes with small residual sugar notes. Body is full with an oily texture and good carbonation with light discernible alcohol notes. Enjoyable BA stout but French oak doesn’t add a ton of flavours..
