Description
Põhjala Brewery is the brainchild of three friends and beer aficionados who, like many a future craft brewer, got tired of the tasteless watery lagers that the faceless megacorporations have saturated the beer market with.

We brew small batches of hand crafted ales, using the best malts, loads of mostly New World hops and a relentless passion for good beer. When creating our beers, we are inspired by Nordic nature, Estonian new cuisine and the work of our fellow microbrewers in the U.S., UK and Scandinavia who, in our opinion, are leading the craft beer revolution.

In hops we trust!

Fles thuis geprobeerd met LiekevdV. Het is een diep donkerbruin bier met een bruinig schuim. Het heeft een rokerige geur. De smaak is vol gebrande mout, chocolade, koffie, noten en een rokerige afdronk.

330mL bottle, pours jet black with a tiny dark brown head. Nose is full of charred oak, wood, moderate roast, and a very light liqueur-like character from the French oak whiskey barrels. Flavour is luxurious, with a remarkable oak barrel character, plenty of charred whiskey, luscious molasses and dark chocolate, and a very solid roasted malt base. Barrels used to perfection, ungirded by a top-notch malt bill. Oily, lush mouthfeel; wonderful complexity. Põhjala’s barrel-aged beers are usually great, but this one is a step above—phenomenally crafted.
