From cask - Cloudy amber color with a small creamy white head. Sweet spiced Aroma with hints of lemon. Light malt flavor, some light hints of fruit, with some sharp spices showing through.

A 2006 bottle, labelled at 10% ABV. I guess this stuff is pretty young, most people are rating older bottles - am I the first to rate a 2006? Anyway, pours an appealing burnt caramel reddish brown, with a quick 2 finger tan head, medium bubbles, that fades rather quickly. Curiously the beer left heavy lacing in the bottle, but not in my glass (hope it wasn’t a clean glass problem). Highly appealing rich aroma: figgy, raisins, plums, some sherry, some indistinct spice that hints at cinnamon or clove, and a rummy alcoholic note. Flavor is full, strong and sweet, with alot of dark fruit (dates, plums) and sweet burnt sugar, borderline cloying but within the range of balance. Still, I could easily see 5 years on this beer putting into the realm of stellar. I will definitely have to cellar one. Mouthfeel is soft, with a surprisingly low carbonation, consistent with its fast fading head. Alcohol is present, but not terribly so. Mainly, you feel it after killing off an entire 750ml within 30 minutes.

Tasted mar-10. BB apr-09. Great stuff still. More wellbalanced and fantastic beer. Still hoppy and much more creamy. Old rating:9-4-7-3-15. Bottle. Creamy off-white good fully lasting head. Amber colour. Fantastic aroma, lots of nice hopps. Too sweet flavor, especially the finish gets sticky. Good beer still. Too watery comparing ABV.

Bottle. Beautiful dark amber/brown color. Nice creamy head. Aroma is spicy and very powerful. Taste is rich and spicy with a distinct aftertaste of alcohol.

Bottled, 33cl. Reddish-brown beer, with a beige head and some floaties. It has a rich aroma of toffee, fruits and beef-stock. Some yeastiness too. A nice candi-sweetness in the flavor is followed by hops, spices and some alcohol. It has a light sourness in the finish, and an almost full body. A pleasant beer indeed, but either the age of the bottle, which is unknown, or my evolved palate, made me lower my score quite a bit. Maybe I should try a fresh bottle soon. 120106

Cask handpull at County Hotel (JDW), Ashford. Golden, thick white head. Belgian yeast aroma, banana and peach. Soft in mouth, more peach/apricot on finish with tingle of hop and dryness. Good easy drinking beer and deceptively strong Belgian golden ale.

Bottle. Red brown colour with a white head.Aroma is fruity apple, toffee and yeast. Flavour is weak roasted applewith notes of alcohol and alcohol. Pleasent finish.

A little better than I expected. Powerful aroma with mostly fruit, light spice, and sweet malt. This doesn’t have the weird sweetness of Abbaye des Rocs, but is well balanced all around with the sweet fruit flavors. It looks good with an off white head but no visible sediment. Overall this is a very high quality Belgian ale that is exactly what I expect of this style. It is very good all around without excelling in any area. Rerate March 2007, in Belgium. Score unchanged.
