Dark deep red-brown beer; irregular, yellowish and dense head. Very alcoholic (not only ethanol) nose, a perfumed fresh greenery aroma, interspecked with some vegetable oil, as for some exotic recipe. Again an exotic taste: like the Indian yoghurt-with-mint-and-corianderleaf sauce, with a vegetable (soja+sesame?) oil flavour. Chocolate is there too, but not bitter at all, rather a sourish edge, marrying itself well with the fine vegetable, green spice flavours. Some plum, warming up. Full bodied, oily & slick. Special one, very unusual flavours. Brewed on demand of a Danish importer, now even available in the country of origin! Good one for my personal 6000th.

BottleBlond, clear body. White frothy head, which lasts mostly. Hoppy, yeasty nose. Lightly bitter initial flavour; moderately bitter finish. Lightly soap. Nice pilsener.

Deep red/amber body, with short lived light brown head. Dominated by an unexpected aniseed / licorice aroma with some spice and malt. The flavour is also very spicy and I suppose it’s a hit or miss beer. A hit with me, but I couldn’t drink it every day. Probably good with fat foods.

Bottled, 10%, 0,75l. Dark amber/brown colour with decent foamy head. Strong licorace aroma with weak hints of malt. The flavour is made of mainly licorace, but olso some spicy notes can be found. Nice aftertaste of licorace. A bit "sweet and sour" sauce feeling over it. Very nice beer. Hides alcohol very well.

Dark ruby, big brown head. Aroma of parfumic licorice and sweat of hot summer day. Supringsly light bodied, hidden alcohol very well. Same kind of spicey and licorice flavor than in Gouden Carolus Noël but not so complex, some cooked banana. Finish has some salty-sweet mix with slightly alcoholic flavor. This one would propably be better when well-matured.

2003 tasted in 2005: Red-brown and cloudy, with light brown head. Plum dominated fruity aroma. Sweet flavour, but in a pleasant way, a bit too much alcohol though.
2004 tasted in 2010. Opened during Jeff Bridges’ Oscar speech, when obviously I should have been drinking White Russian instead. Great head duration and lacing. Caramel aroma with rich dried fruit, a bit on the oxidized side. Rather dry and vineous flavour with fruit and toffee. 8-5-8-4-16 = 4.1

Slight gushing to huge pinkish head; fully hazy cyclamen-red beer. Fruity, raspberry-ish aromas, pastry-like. Very sweet taste with a (dark??) malty underslung.There is some fruity tang, but not anywhere enough to speak about acidity. Fruitcake flavour. Rather well bodied, fruit-juice like texture, but there’s more around, of course. ’t Anker wanted to have its own oddity. Oh well, worse certainly exists. Seems to be extremely popular in the UK, I’m told.

2003 Bottle: Poured a rusty and cloudy amber ale with a medium brown head with surprisingly great retention. Aroma is quite port-like sweet with strong malt also noticeable. Taste is sweeter then expected and I was glad I drank this after dinner since the sweetness would have been too overpowering before a meal. Body is quite full and alcohol is not discernable which I always appreciate. Overall, I would say that this si another great beer from a sometime underappreciated brewery – I very much appreciated the creamy, fruit/sweetness of this one.

Muddy amber color with red shades. Mellow aroma of fruit candies (mix of strawberry and cherry). Far from being a real beer, yet it’s somehow pleasant to drink, quite sweet and with some fruitness (cherry and strawberry, inverse order); but the arrière-goût is too strange (kernels bitterness…).

#400 Pours out a hazy mahogny color with a small light tan head. Fine lacing is maintained very well. Aromas are a very nice combination of caramel, apple ciderplums, brown sugar and just a little of that classic Belgian spice. Flavors are much the same. Lots of sweet caramel and brown sugar with some smokey notes as well. The high ABV is noticeable but plays well together with the other flavors. Fine but lively carbonation and a slightly bitter woody aftertaste. Very nice way to close out 2004 Thanks for the recomendation Larry Pitonka
