Bottle from De Hopduvel. Hazy yellow/golden colour, white foam. Medium carbonation. Light sweet aroma with hints of grapefruit and spices. Harsh bitter finish. I couldn’t detect the vanilla. Nothing exceptional.

Bottle @ home. Hazy yellow color, medium sized off-white head. Aroma is malts, some herbs (cinnamon, clove, coriander? Actually I have no idea, I suck at naming the correct herbs or spices, but there’s definitely some in this beer) or spices. Taste malts, a touch of yeast, bitter hops, bitter, only slightly a touch of herbs or spices. Firm body, suitable carbonation. Well I must admit, though I thought this would not really be my kind of beer when I judged it just by aroma, I’m pleasantly surprised after tasting it. Definitely one of the better Belgian Blonds imo.

Clear dark blond beer, big creamy off-white head, irregular bubbles on the top, pretty adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: sugary, lots o yeast, some banana peel, bit dusty. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: sweet start, pretty yeasty, some banana, nice bitterness from the hops, pretty fruity, notes of peaches and citrus. Aftertaste: some citrus, nice bitterness, pretty fruity still, little floral, some honey, yeasty touch, bitter and hoppy ending.

33 cl. bottle @ home. Procured from Willems. BBF 04/09/2014. Dark brown, slight ruby hue, small off-white head. Sweet caramel, thick dark fruits, candy sugar, slight liquorish, sweet spices, very sweet, liquid brown sugar caramel malts smell overall. Taste is dried dark fruits, cocoa powder & chocolate, very sweet caramel & toffee malts, light coffee & oodles of melted candy sugar, Oily, caramel malts but not thick or anything mouthfeel. Makes me think more of a light Barley Wine than a BSDA. This should be rated higher & better known, really good stuff.

33 cl. bottle @ home. Procured from Willems. BBF 04/09/2014. This is a tripel according to the bottle. Pours amber golden, clear, creamy white head. Nose is sweet, thick white sugar, white grapes, sweet white grapes, white glazing, liqueur, cake, honey, very sweet BE yeast, white cupcakes, very pleasing smell. Tastes of honey, white grapes, thick white sugar, light condensed milk, cupcakes, clear alcohol, kumquat liqueur, bit obscured by a less interesting floral & BE yeast profile. Slightly oily, sugary, decent carb. Bit warming, quite a unique & interesting taste profile, not optimal but still very pleasing. Be sure to let this beer warm up.

Sample glass at the 18th Christmas Beer Festival in Essen on 15th Dec 2012. Dark brown body with an off-white, almost beige head. Rich aroma of coffee, chocolate and liquorice all rolled up in a spiced mince pie. Tasted like it’s smell: a real Christmas treat. Full of flavour and alcohol, wanted more, but the wife and other beers prevented me from sticking with this glorious brew. Should have had it later in the day, as I kept comparing my other beers to this monster and they all came up short.
