Life's too short for boring, middle of the road beers. Craft Brewery Kees! stands for tasty, fruity, hoppy flavours and strong dark ales, but there'll always be that 'twist' . That special 'something' that make his beers stand out.

Owner and brewer Kees Bubberman started his brewing career in 2007 at Emelisse, a small regional brewery in Kamperland, Zeeland. Within a couple of years Emelisse became a household name among craft breweries worldwide, thanks to the by British and American beer styles inspired ales, IPA's, strong porters, stouts that Kees Bubberman brewed. Never afraid of trying something new and relying on his experience as a restaurant chef he created more than 30 new beers, including an IPA with Earl Grey tea, barrel aged porters en stouts and strong porters and stouts with coffee. Kees was ahead of his time with experimental flavours like these.

In 2014 Kees Bubberman decided to start his own brewery in his hometown Middelburg. Thankful for the opportunities Emelisse gave him, he felt that it was time to go his own way. Brewery Kees! started in January 2015 and within a year his delicious IPA's, strong porters, Russian Imperial stouts and barrel aged barley wines, porters en stouts found their way in the (beer-)world.

Kees keeps on creating new beers and searching for new tastes, sometimes following and sometimes setting trends.

Keg at Bottle Shop - Bermondsey. Pours clear amber-brown with a tight, creamy tan head. Rich semi-dark malts in the nose, hearty toffee, grain, banana, figs. Heavy sweet flavor, a little boozy, with notes of grape, berry candies, mild bitter earth, orange, cherry. Full bodied, lightly chewy, with fine to average carbonation. Lightly warming on the finish, sugary and sticky sweet, with lots of cherry candies, more berries, plum, fig, dates, caramel. It’s a touch medicinal, and certainly boozy. OK in small doses.

Bottle shared at Craft Beer Co, Clekenwell - London. Many thanks to Wingman Willis. Pours rich brown with a frothy, beige head. Hard roast in the nose, some dry chocolate, scorched earth. Light sweet flavor, ashy, with notes of oily chocolate and lightly tangy dark fruits. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Ashy bitter finish with further baking cocoa. Eh, so so.

Tasting glass draft @ Van Moll Brewpub. Dark brown, red fruit hue, deep creamy mocha head. Nose is weird woody syrup, herbs, light molasses, brown sugar,… Taste is banana, molasses, metallic, soap, overly sweet, almost Belgian in quality, sugar, caramel, cough syrup,… Overly sweet, cough syrup, dahs metallic, basic,… Cough syrup body and herbal,… Not too crazy about this one. It is okay.

Tasting glass draft @ Van Moll Brewpub. Clear amber, orange, collapsing off-white head. Nose is rich passion fruit, esters, pine & marmalade. Taste is a bit too sweet for what it is but good overall still, juice, pine, mandarin, jammy, marmalade, tangerine, sugar, a bit too much sugar but good nicely fruity hop profile all the same. Nice beer, a bit atypical but rather nice. Body is sugary, jammy, touch butterscotch.

Tasting glass draft @ Van Moll Brewpub. Dark brown, creamy tanned head. Nose is a bit metallic, thin, ashy, powdery, light cough syrup,… Taste is thin mocha, ashes, powdery, faint coffee grounds, quite a bit of syrup, lightly metallic, malt,… Body is quite substantial, syrup. Okay nothing really expressive, not entirely what I expected & a bit too metallic. Overall decent enough.

Tasting glass draft @ Van Moll Brewpub. Clear amber, orange, off-white collapsing head. Nose is weird mix of strange green grass & weeds hops + sweetish oily vanilla malts, really doesn’t work for me. Taste is same, a real clash of flavors,… Oily green grass, weird herbs, mixed with vanilla sweet toffee caramel, sugar malts, butterscotch & toffee. Oily butterscotch & toffee body. The hop profile could work for me but not with this base.

Tasting glass draft @ Van Moll Brewpub.Dark red fruit amber, little tanned head. Nose is huge cough syrup, esters with overripe diabetes fruit, huge sugar, thick herbal, anise & even more cough syrup quality. Taste is overly heavy on cough syrup, molasses, jam, sugar, anise, herbal medicinal drinks, unpleasant & harsh to drink,… Thick cough syrup body. Even for a Belgian this would be excessive. This was really not to my liking, drinking even a tasting glass felt like a punishment. It really was like drinking a glass herbal cough syrup, nope, really nope. Worst beer I have had with the name Magic Rock on it, easily.

Botella 33 cl tomada en el momento en el kraken 21..11..2015. (r116). Color ámbar amarillento turbio con espuma blanca. Sabores maltosos ligeramente afrutados destacando sobre todo herbaceos lupulados verdes secos intensos y persistentes en boca por un buen tiempo. Amargo final también seco y persistente. Buena aunque con sabores algo rústicos algo ásperos.
